I'd like to as a question. What is the definition of a conservative Christian?
I'm starting to realise that my definition may not be accurate at all. I live in South Africa, and in my understanding, conservatism is somehow more traditional than other movents. My church's statement of faith seems to be a perfect fit with the nicene creed, which I saw mentioned in the FSG. I welcome your thoughts.
1. Conservative refers to maintaining a "status quo" if it is not broken, don't fix it....
2. Conservative means a change in doctrine, dogma, traditon must be studied and biblically validated prior to embracing
3. Conservative for the most part, is middle of the road to right wingers ...."old time religion, good enough for me"....
4. Conservative in the middle of the road, keeps in check the ultra liberal and conservative branches from going off on a "bunny trail or witch hunt"
5. Conservative means basic tenants of faith, as the Nicean Creed, fruit of the Holy Spirit, faith, hope, love, Jesus crucified and risen
Andre, the forum has a "sticky" which answers your question. You can check it out for yourself, but here it is--
"A few things to know about us:
1. The Holy Scriptures are the inspired, written Word of God. The revelation of Scripture is completely reliable, inerrant and authoritative. Some conservative Christians also hold church tradition to be a source of authority. 2 Timothy 3:16
2. Human life is sacred from conception to death, though some conservative Christians accept that the death penalty is justified, by judicial process, in capital or other grave cases. Exodus 20:13
3. We believe that the Nicene Creed is an accurate description of the nature of God.
4.We believe in the literal authenticity of Christ's miracles, and the historical accuracy of events described in the Bible. Acts 2:22
5. We believe in the judgment of God, and in a literal Heaven and Hell. Acts 10:42 ; Mark 16:19 ; Luke 12:5
6. We have a traditional Christian view of morality. We oppose sexual activity outside a traditional marriage between one man and one woman, abortion on demand and euthanasia. Genesis 2:24 ; Psalm 51:5"
A Christian conservative is one who believes that the Word of God is absolutely true. That every word in the Bible was inspired by God through the men that wrote the Scriptures and that we who have the Holy Spirit will have revelation knowledge of the truth of God's Word through our faith in Jesus Christ.
A person who does not believe the Word to be the absolute truth (thus being error-filled) will not have have the Word revealed to them through the Holy Spirit for these people are faithless and rebellious against God.
A person who proclaims himself a Christian yet supports abortion and homosexual marriage is a moral relativist and the truth of God is not in Him. Such a person would not be called a conservative Christian, however they would have no problem calling Conservative Christians bigots and racists because we do not accept the Worldly Polically-correct view (ie moral relativism).

All the above is MY fallible, personal opinion. I do not claim that when I speak, Jesus speaks or even that I'm correct.
NO offense - personal or otherwise - is intended or implied, and any interpretation to the contrary is incorrect.
My objective is to openly and honestly participate in the seeking of truth together with my FULL, unseparated, entirely equal and equally blessed brothers and sisters in Christ.

POLITICAL resolution: Power, Authority, Individualism, pride, lording it over others, lecture, demands for quiet submission. RELATIONAL resolution: Humility, community, accountability, listening, consensus.

A Christian conservative and a conservative Christian are not the same thing at all. Which is the noun and which is the adjective matters enormously.
I am a conservative Christian, i.e., one who adheres to the Gospel as handed down from the days of the Apostles.
But I'm not a Christian conservative, which carries connotations of Jerry Falwell, the Moral Majority, and political social conservatism. I'm not part of that subculture, don't like it or agree with it, and that's not my politics.
I'm a Christian and a libertarian, though not a "Christian libertarian" or a "libertarian Christian", both of which have specific meanings that I don't identify with.

Fair enough for political definitions, but the OP's question seemed to be focusing more on theology.
