Go to your user cp and find Avatars. When you get living avatars purchase items out of the items. I think it is easy from here. Oh yeah, remember to always save your avatar after you have made a change.

You can't purchase armor or weapons or stuff like that for your pet. Those items are for if you have a CF living avatar and you want to put them on your avatar.
Spells are disabled for pets. A very few of the first prototypes have them but they were not released into the general public.
