Any church that preaches salvation in Jesus Christ ONLY, doesn't dismiss the virgin birth of Christ, doesn't preach a works salvation, encourages people to seek the Lord's will in their life though prayer and Bible reading, and never makes one follow man's traditions is a great place to start. I personally would recommend you stay away from any religion that says their book is better than the Bible or corrects the Bible. A Bible based Church is always a good start.
This is the kind of church I've been looking for. They are difficult to
find. Great advice!

You say you are leaning towards Assemblies of God at the moment. To be honest, I'm at the point of making myself at home there. Perhaps we can share our likes regarding Assemblies of God via PM?
I would heartily recommend my own congregation, but I'm not confident I'd be at home in an AG church picked at random. Since AG has only a very loose central governing body, AG churches vary widely. The best of them (like mine ) are incredibly awesome, but others are too conservative and legalistic, and some are under the sway of Word of Faith or charismaniac (i.e., the extremist, totally weird version of charismatic) leadership. But if you find a good AG church, IMO there is none better.
