In fact, viruses aren't an animal, they aren't even alive. But that aside, simple unicellular organisms were the first living things, and viruses came later.
Pretty much.
Though, they are alive when they've found a host, before then, they just lay dormant and show no signs of life.

Cell theory disagrees with you.
Viruses are biological, certainly, but they aren't alive. They are more like a prion or a catalyst (a very complex one, granted) but they aren't "alive" in any meaningful way. They lack metabolism, they lack the ability to reproduce. These are the three things you need to qualify as "living"... cellular, metabolism, reproducing. Viruses got none of 'em.
In fact there is. They are the same laws of physics that make Hydrogen molecules bond to Oxygen molecules to form water. The same laws that make soap bond to fatty molecules while floating away in water. The same laws that make gasoline an effective energy storage medium to power your car. In short, the laws of chemistry.
