2016 theory - any objections?

Are there any real objections to the 2016 theory, other than the fact that all such projections of the future thus far have failed?

It seems like an interesting series of coincidences.

Are there any specific predictions for the end taking place in 2016? Or is this thread intended to show that 2016 has no better reason for being the year of the apocalypse than any other date (like 2012)?

The latter I suspect.

Ya, the last part of the 70 weeks thread pretty much runs it down.

And of course, I don't object

Some people are of the opinion that the 2015/2016 and the lunar/solar eclipses falling on Jewish holy days are significant, and it also ties in with the 2012 Mayan prediction.

Shmittah Yeah 2015/2016 (or 2016/2017): Second Coming of Messiah (Christ)? : Jews & Joes

Someone from Asia named John Wong appears to have come up with the same theories independently:
Flickr: The Second Coming of Jesus Christ (on Monday, 22nd Feb., 2016)

5770 October 2, 2009 to October 9, 2009
5771 September 22, 2010 to September 29, 2010
5772 October 12, 2011 to October 19, 2011
5773 September 30, 2012 to October 7, 2012
5774 September 18, 2013 to September 25, 2013
5775 October 8, 2014 to October 15, 2014
5776 September 27, 2015 to October 3, 2015
5777 October 16, 2016 to October 23, 2016

This is most unusual. It is a rare occurrence for four lunar cycles on successive Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) observances. It will not happen again for hundreds of years.

Four lunar eclipses occurring on the Feast of Tabernacles and Passover in two successive years are phenomenal. But add to them two solar eclipses on the two days that open the Jewish year - Adar 29/Nisan1, just two weeks before Passover, and Tishri 1 (Rosh Hashanah) - is uncanny. On each of these six Jewish Holy Days, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give her light. Will this happen again in the 21st century? No. Did it happen in the 20th century? Yes, in 1949/1950, the year following Israel's statehood, and 1967/1968, the year Jerusalem was liberated in the Six-Day War! Before that, you have to go back to 1493 for four successive lunar eclipses on Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles.
A guy named Mark Blitz is the primary proponent of this theory.

and then there's this, which I posted in the other thread:

The Rapture could still be in the fall of 2009, the tribulation beginning shortly thereafter, the Antichrist/Satan declaring himself to be God at the mid-point in December 21th, 2012, and the "sign of the Son of Man" and the Second Coming being on Rosh Hashanah 2016.
The author of this quote doesn't seem to realize that December 21st, 2012 is one of the two projected dates for the Mayan event, and also the winter solstice.

Thanks for the links. While the stuff they talk about in them is interesting, it just sounds like another Biblical numerology theory that has been made time and time before.

Yeah, I agree, I think the eclipses are somewhat compelling though, falling on Jewish holy days and having the appearance of the sun going dark, and the moon turning red.

what about the time being shortened for the elect's sake?

wouldn't that make a 7 year tribulation incorrect?

IDK - the things that the theory hinges on IMO are:
1. Jesus' statement about the fig tree
2. Newton's interpretation of Daniel 9
3. Lunar/solar events which seem just too darn coincidental with
A.) Israel becoming a nation
B.) Israel retaking Jerusalem
C.) a series of celestial events which won't take place (w/ correlation to Jewish holidays) for about another 100 years past 2014/2015.

I wouldn't put this on the same level as numerology, it seems to jive pretty well. IMO its pretty darn miraculous to see the modern day tribe of Judah returned to the land of the covenant without having lost their ethnic identity despite the notable handicap of not having anyplace to hang their hat on for 2k or so years. Is this the blossoming of the fig tree of which Jesus spoke? IMO - yes.

Yeah, I would agree - although I think the shortening was down to 3.5 years as put forth in revelation. But I'd have to go with a 7 year peace treaty still being worked in here right quick per Daniel 9 (at least before mid-September 2010).

A thought which occurred to me was that those days might have been cut short by Jesus' first coming in some way, his 3.5 year ministry cutting down the appointed 7 years by half. Almost like a gambit by the devil (one that got utterly smashed by the Christ), that God would not suffer and die in order to preserve humanity from being absolutely wiped out.
