Burden of proof and all that? Guess such an archaic concept has been lost in the wave of "OH MY GOSH OBAMA IS A KENYAN COMMUNIST MUSLIM" politics we've been 'enjoying' recently.
You forgot the Fascist part of President Obama's title. We must not forget that part--he is an "Kenyan Communist Fascist Muslim".

It is you who should be ashamed for repeating an ugly rumor without any evidence that it is true.
You should be ashamed for accusing Democrats of taking advantage of a sick man without any evidence that they have done so or that the man is sick.
You ought to apologize to Democrats and to Carter.

No, it doesn't; it is reasonable. How do you know the claim is unwarranted? (warrentless(?) You don't know where she heard it; if it turns out to be true, you sound like a lunatic. Perhaps she should be so good as to state where she heard it then. I was raised in the south, I still live in the south. I been here better than 50 years, so don't tell me he's seen or heard, or felt, etc. anything I haven't. Carter has been there for the more than 80 years. Do you think nothing changed in the 30 years before your time? Do you think you've seen, heard and felt everything everyone else has? Anyway, I think she's right. If he does have Alzheimer's, the dems should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of him in that way.
In what way has he been taken advantage of?

If I overheard it on the subway, in the library or in a bar, would it make any difference? If I made it up out of whole cloth to see what would happen? (That wouldn't happen, I've seen it done too many times to want to be associated with that sort of liberal tactic.)
Would that make any difference? Okay, maybe that one would.
Where I heard it is irrelevant to the conversation. I would be pleased as punch if Carter could learn to keep his mouth shut about things that he has no business divulging or commenting on in the press. He's a private citizen now, he could act like it. Originally Posted by aisy_Day Carter has been there for the more than 80 years. Do you think nothing changed in the 30 years before your time? Everything everyone else has? Interesting question if somewhat of a non sequitur. As a woman in the south little changed until the 70's. Black men were treated better, and had more rights. Women needed their husband's written permission to buy and own property in some parts.
Yes, I've seen and heard the cat calls and name calling. I've seen blacks being turned away from a job because the applicant was black.
However that may be, we would be amiss if we didn't realize that disagreeing with someone requires a difference of opinion, not just a difference of pigmentation. Originally Posted by aisy_Day In what way has he been taken advantage of?
I don't know that he is being taken advantage of. He's long been known as someone who speaks without thinking so his missteps may be traced to that. But that is why I posted the question. If the rumors are correct then they ought to be ashamed, if they aren't true then it's just Carter being Carter.

************************************************************************************************** Strom Thurmond was a staunch racist and Joe ("You lie!") Wilson worked as his aide prior to entering South Carolina politics.
Based on that, Wilson's voting record and his concern for preserving Thurmond's "legacy," I don't think its Carter who's suffering from Alzheimers.
This is all nothing more than a conservative "smokescreen" to divert public attention away from Wilson.

So in other words it's the repubs taking advantage of Carter.

So us private citizens are not allowed to air our opinions when asked by the press? Somehow that does not seem correct.

Like anyone is paying any attention to Joe Wilson anymore. Nobody needs a smokescreen to divert attention from such. People are more interested in Chicago not getting the olympics. Anyone want to explain why that is racist?
