Question Ever been ignored after being asked a question?

This isn't really a problem looking for a solution as much as a frustrating observation; but feel free to share if you think there is an actual "solution" to this.

Have you ever had this happen when you try to witness?

At work 3 of us were in the lunch room (me and 2 non-believers). I was eating lunch today when the converstation of evolution began. Then the whole "where did everything come from" questions began. One guy said that he couldn't believe that God was eternal because he had to come from somewhere. I tried to tell him that even IF that were the case (that God was created by someone), the person at the top...the Creator...is God. I think one problem is that many people think of "God" as a name rather than a title. The sovereign of the universe, the Creator, is God...no matter what name you might want to give Him (although we know He does actually have specific names shown in the Bible) the person holding that position is "God".

After I tried to explain that, the other guy started in with the old, "The Bible was written thousands of years ago by people who still believed the world was flat"...etc., etc., etc.

However, at that point those 2 guys simply started to talk between themselves about how ridiculous the idea of the Bible being the trustworthy Word of God is--and they completely ignored me. They didn't acknowledge ANYthing I said after that whether question or comment. It was as if I'd left the room.

Very bizzare, a bit rude, slightly confusing, somewhat frustrating. This has happened twice. It happened once before with different people.

So have you ever been tuned out when you were in the middle of a converstation about God?

How'd you handle it or what did you think about it?

I have been. I cant think of a specific time at this point because I am a bit tired. Sorry.
Oh nevermind I remember. lol

I was starting these religious vlogs on youtube. Then I looked in my related videos sections and I saw "Good Atheist go to Hell and Bad Christians Go To Heaven" and I thought the whole thing wasn't all to accurate and I just posted a comment about my thoughts on the video and my belief on the subject. Instead of taking this opportunity to have a serious conversation(reasonable people can disagree) he resorted to sarcasm.

So I wasn't really ignored but it was equally as discouraging from when I have been ignored in the past. After I let my steam out(make sure you don't do the whole letting out your anger on the person, will only turn them away more, just like 'dont write a letter when you are angry') I just remembered how somewhere I am not sure in the bible says that the world will hate us because of our belief/love for God. And like the song Amazing Grace it says "I once was blind, but now I see."

Whenever I encounter people that attack me or ignore me after I get over my selfishly hurt-ego I start feeling bad for them instead because they are simply blind of the love of God.

So if I were you I would try and not let it get to you. Just keep praying, God will give you wisdom to know what to do in those situations if they happen again. =)

Thanks for the encouragement. You know, one of the hardest things for me as a Christian is to see people like that and KNOW that no matter what we do or say or how much time passes...there are just some people who ARE going to spend eternity in the Lake of Fire separated eternally from God and everything good. That really makes me sad. When I encounter people who aren't will to have a discussion about God at all, it really makes me feel sad for them as I see another missed opportunity for them to be saved. I guess the sad truth is that no matter what we do, eventually there are SOME who simply will never choose to be saved.

You planted your seeds.

They're not going to change their creed right there in the dining hall. It took a while for them to get there. The important thing is that they know.

No need to shove it down their throat. That can be counterproductive.

They turned away because they're frightened of reality. You represent the truth that they are trying to avoid.

They Holy Spirit will work that out for them

It can take a lifetime for a seed to sprout. The important thing is that it's planted.

You did good. Not to worry....... And thanx for your work.
