I finished 2 Kings this morning finally and I'm not coping well with Chronicles to be honest. Ikm thinking of skipping around and coming back to it.
what you don't like the geneologies?

"This is my prayer in the desert. When all that's within me feels dry. This is my prayer in my hunger and need, my God is the God who provides. This is my prayer in the fire. In weakness or trial or pain. There is a faith proved in more worth then gold, so refine me Lord through the flame!" Hillsong United - Desert song
Ok I am still in Dueteronomy. I am still slugging away just very slowly. I think that it is because I have been reading so many other books that I am forgetting to read my Bible. I am going to change it. I have to get reading.
Anyway I last night there was a massive storm (praise the Lord - we really needed the rain) and I lay in bed thinking about these verses. I am taking this from the CEV (Contemporary English Version)
"...No matter where you go or who you ask, you will get the same answer. No one has heard of another god even trying to do such things as the Lord your God has done for you." Dueteronomy 4: 32-34
I just loved the wording of this version as it makes you really think about God and how much He has done for us and yet there is no other god like Him.
Evie, that's an awesome obvservation! I love the times throughout the Bible where a non-believer from another country would come to the Hebrews and say something like that, just declaring that our God is the only God! He is so full of glory that even people who had been following other gods all their lives, in places completely seperated from God, could still see His works and know He is really God!
Well I finished 1 Chronicles today, had a few thoughts.
1 Chronicles 22:5 - I love this. God told David that he would not build the temple for God, but that his son would. Well David didn't mope about it for a second, he didn't pursue any glory for it. What he did was prepare everything needed for the construction, all the gold, the workers, on and on, mapped out the plans, and put his son in the absolute best position possible to get it done. That would have been a huge task to lay on Solomon on his own at a young age, but David gave him everything he needed in complete abundance, ensuring Solomon's success and ensuring glory to his son and to God.
1 Chronicles 28- 9: "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever."
I love this. It is also a very strong warning though. I can't just give God lip service. If I say I follow Christ but really I'm just pursuing my own desires, what is that to God? He will see right through to my heart and turn His face from me.
1 Chronicles 29-10-19 is an amazing prayer by David, but I especially liked the parts about wealth... Here's some clips from it... (29-12) "Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all, In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. (God owns it all and has all the power and glory, and He wants to use that to give US strength!)
(29:14) "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You and of Your own we have given You. (everything is God's and even if we gave all we had, physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially, we would still just be giving God back the things that are His. But that's okay, because He wants to bless us and give to us freely of all of those things!)

How is everyone doing? It's been almost 2 weeks without a post, so I'm wondering.
Don't give up! After you hit Psalms it's all down hill!

Thanks for the encouragement Allen! I'm almost through Psalms right now. I was a little disappointed with the ones in the beginning, they weren't so great and encouraging as I thought, but then from like around 80 on they got this really good turn, and I've liteally been like glued to my Bible since, LOL. I think I'm really looking forward to the rest of the old testament, if it just gets better!
__________________ Rom.6:20-23 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Thank you for the encouragement Allen! I've been really silent on this lately for no reason... I have been reading, just not much at a time, like a page or two a day. I just finished 2 Chronicles, I'll post my thoughts on it a bit later tonight, my notes are scattered on random post-its, gotta find em all

I've noticed that most of the one year plans mix a little of the New Testament in with the Old Testament every day, so you don't get so bored. That might be a good idea.
If it will help any, I'll rep any post of a reading progress report anyone makes. It doesn't have to be elaborate, just tell us where you are reading.

well wow, we are about 2 months in already... I am perfectly happy though if I just read every word of the Bible, whatever pace it takes for me to get there. Even a page or two a day is having a significant impact on me and is helping me to grow
