Post Prolifer Christian murdered

...so, as the comboxes at the article are making increasingly clear, it's no big deal. He had it coming.

The Flint Journal fileIn this September 2000 photo, James Pouillon holds one of the posters he uses to protest abortion in Owosso.

OWOSSO, Michigan --
An anti-abortion activist gunned down Friday morning in front of Owosso High School has been identified as James Lawrence Pouillon, 63, of Owosso.

Pouillon was a longtime abortion protester, known for his highly vocal and visible public demonstrations around the community and even outside the state.

Longtime friend and fellow activist Judy Climer, president of Flint Right to Life, described Pouillon as "just a nice, elderly gentleman who was disabled, used an oxygen tank and wore leg braces."

Climer said Pouillon had a regular weekly schedule of visits to abortion clinics in Flint and Saginaw, where he would park across the street and pray when abortions were allegedly being conducted.

"I knew him very well. He told me one time God put in his heart a passion for the little babies that have the right to be born and they were being denied that right," said Climer, who said Pouillon often stopped at her office for coffee breaks as he drove from one location to another to demonstrate.

"He even told me once he'd be willing to die for that belief. That's what I hear him saying right now."

Climer said Pouillon called her last week and told her he planned to be in Flint later today, parked across the street from the Feminine Health Care Center, 2032 S. Saginaw Street.

Prayers for Mr. Pouillon and his family, for all victims of gun violence, that all people be given the grace to re-examine their own gun ownership and our too-lax gun laws, that all people learn how to settle their differences in civilized and non-violent ways.

Post Pro-Life Advocate Murdered in Michigan

'And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?'
(Mother Teresa)

ORLANDO, Fl. (Catholic Online) –
I write once again from the “Catholic Leadership Conference.” We just finished listening to two extraordinary presentations by Tom Peters of the “American Papist” and Joshua Mercer of “Catholic Vote” on the use of all media to proclaim our message when we received the tragic news of the killing of a Pro-Life defender named James Pullion.

Elizabeth Shaw of the Flint Journal filed this early report:

*****

“State police at the Corunna post have confirmed a well-known anti-abortion activist was shot multiple times and killed this morning in front of Owosso High School.
The victim's identity has not yet been released but the shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m., after most students were off the buses and safely inside the building, said Owosso schools transportation supervisor Jayne Campbell.

State police also confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody about 8:15 a.m. at the suspect's home.

Owosso High School secretary Wendy Smith said the students remain in lockdown this morning and confirmed that no students were involved and all are safe with classes going on as normal. The shooting did not occur on school property, Smith said. Meanwhile, police have completely ringed with police tape a section of North Street in front of the school.

A black car can be seen parked at the corner of North and Whitehaven streets, where a portable oxygen tank is lying in a front yard next to a large sign bearing the image of a baby and the word "Life."

****

We were informed of this tragic news by the excellent reporters from LifeSite news. They filed an immediate report which gives some more information. Kathleen Gilbert wrote: “Though police have not released the name, sources tell LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) that the victim was pro-lifer James Pullion. State police at the Corunna post say that a suspect was taken into custody at the suspect's home shortly after the 7:30 a.m. shooting. No one else was hurt in the shooting.”

Immediately, Dr. Deal Hudson of "Inside Catholic" led all of the leaders who are gathered here in prayer for the victim, his family and all who were in any way affected by this evil act. We also prayed for our Nation.

As I returned to my room to report on the tragedy, I discovered that Elizabeth Shaw had filed this follow up report:

***

“ Owosso Police Chief Michael Compeau said it appears the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Department is investigating a second homicide this morning that may be related to the shooting that occurred in front of Owosso High School.

State police confirmed the second apparent homicide was at or near Fuoss Gravel Pit on Busha Road near M-21 in Owosso Township. Employees at the gravel pit refused to comment. Members of the state police crime lab are on their way to Shiawassee County right now, and will be looking at whether the two crimes are indeed linked.

Compeau will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. at the Owosso police department to provide more details.”

****

Of course, the fact that this has all occurred on September 11, the anniversary of one of the greatest acts of violence perpetrated against the United States, only magnifies the profound evil of taking innocent human lives. It also reminds us all that a cycle of violence has been unleashed in our age.

In 1994, at a National Prayer Breakfast, in the presence of then President Clinton, that little sign of contradiction and prophetic voice, God rest her soul, Mother Teresa, hit the nail on the head. Speaking at a podium where her small stature could barely be seen over she spoke these words:

"But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child - a direct killing of the innocent child - murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion?

As always, we must persuade her with love, and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even his life to love us. So the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love - that is, to give until it hurts... her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts. By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems.

And by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. That father is likely to put other women into the same trouble. So abortion just leads to more abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion".

Today in Michigan we witnessed once again the taking innocent human life. The “Culture of Death” promotes a Culture of Violence because it undermines the very foundation of our culture, the respect for the dignity of every human person..

When the most vulnerable among us, our first neighbors, can be killed in the first home of the whole human race at any time and for any reason, we must face the harsh reality of what has been unleashed.

We must also redouble our efforts to expose and oppose the “Culture of Death” and build a new Culture of Life and Civilization of love in its place. That is another reason why the “Catholic leadership Conference" is so important. This is our moment. The Lord Himself told us “to those to whom much is given, much will be required.”

Rest in Peace James Pullion.

Post Blame the victim

OWOSSO, Mich. (AP) --
A 63-year-old anti-abortion activist who was shot and killed outside a Michigan high school had been arrested in the past for protesting. James Pouillon (PULL-yun) was arrested in 1994 after protesting on the steps of Owosso's city hall instead of his usual spot on the sidewalk. He sued, claiming violations of his constitutional free speech, religion and assembly rights. A 2000 federal appeals court ruling said Pouillon often was the target of verbal abuse along with "assorted missiles" while standing in front of City Hall. The court said he once was almost run down by a motorist who swerved onto the sidewalk and drove at him. A car dealership also sued Pouillon in the 1990s for picketing and shouting slogans at customers.
This story which is running a numerous news sites really angers me. This is unbelievable their focus on the victim being arrested in the past for defending the innocents. Yes the victims previous arrest record forced the murderer to shoot him multiple times. Guns don't kill people, people being arrested for pro-life activities does.

Even worse this was the headline they ran with which they did not even check for accuracy. "Abortion activist was arrested for protest" Abortion activist?

Well, I have switched to being a liberal and pro-choice Catholic but I still think this is wrong. Murder is always wrong. However, I do not believe that abortion is murder.

Post For the Least of Our Brothers: On the Murder of Jim Pouillon

When Dr. George Tiller was murdered in cold-blood earlier this year, pro-abortion political partisans and the left in general wasted no time in condemning the act as one of “domestic terrorism.” Leftist blogs and news magazines declared that “words matter” – the words of the pro-life movement are what ultimately cause people who would not have otherwise done so to pick up a weapon and take a life. The entire pro-life movement, therefore, was to blame for the actions of individuals.

There is little doubt in my mind that no one in the media is going to hold the “pro-choice” movement to account for the murder of Jim Pouillon, a 63 year-old man on an oxygen tank and crutches who renounced violence, and, so far as we know, never harmed a living soul. His great and terrible crime was to simply display, in images more than words, the truth of abortion – that it almost always ends with a butchered, bloody human being. For the record, only cowards and liars fear the truth.

But let us return to the topic of words. They still matter, don’t they? Let us take the words, for instance, of the CEO of Planned Parenthood of Collier County, Florida, not long ago:

“I think the people that demonstrate outside of our building are terrorists because they’re trying to deny women access to what a woman is choosing for herself”

So, to be clear: American citizens exercising their first amendment rights, who certainly cannot and do not attempt to physically prevent anyone from entering a facility, are “terrorists”. Before addressing the hypocrisy of this charge, let us look at what people such as Jim Pouillon actually do.
There are unquestionably thousands, perhaps even millions of Americans alive today because of the efforts of these “terrorists”, who provide alternatives and counseling to women who have been abandoned by society and never informed that there are people willing to help them through their pregnancies.

Because abortion, even the consideration of it, to say nothing of the actual obtainment, is so shameful to many women, most people may never know how closely the Angel of Death hovered over them during their years in what ought to have been the safest place in the world. The point here, though, is that Jim Pouillon, and others who do exactly what he did, save lives, every day.

Of course they will never be remembered in the same way as, for instance, the firefighters many of us remember today on the anniversary of 9/11. That is because the firefighters rushed into collapsing buildings to save lives that were valued across the political consensus. No one has a political problem with the average, living, breathing adult.

Jim Pouillon spent his days attempting to save lives that were considered a burden, lives that were “unwanted”, that were not powerful enough to declare explicitly what all living organisms express through every thing they do in every moment of their existence – their desire to live. The lives Jim Pouillon wanted to save are considered politically inconvenient, for every child that is born because his or her mother decided against abortion at the last moment is a defeat for the abortion industry. They were marked for death by a culture that considers human life itself to be a disposable commodity and yet they were spared; they are living testaments against the materialism and selfishness that give rise to and define a pro-abortion movement.

And yet the men and women responsible for saving these lives are described as “terrorists”. Was it not a rash generalization of Muslims as terrorists that led to a wave of violence against Muslims and even non-Muslims who looked like they might be Muslims right after 9/11? Was it not then that we were told by the same academic and media establishments that we must be very careful not to judge all Muslims for what a handful did on that day? Why did they tell us these things? Because they knew then what they forget as soon as they are confronted with people courageous enough to say “NO” to their desire to kill their children to make life easier: they knew that people would unfairly target Muslims, and single them out for acts of violence.

It sure is great to be considered just valuable enough to be valued by the left. Why, you’ll have legions of really intelligent sounding people with long lists of credentials after their names writing ethical treatises on why your existence matters and why it is wrong to treat you differently. But fall just outside of the materialist-hedonist rubric – for instance, threaten their unlimited sexual freedom – and watch out! Then you’ll only have Jim Pouillon to protect you.

Jim Pouillon may well be the victim of “pro-choice”, anti-abortion rhetoric, not only of the kind one would find in a street protest but by in the outrageous public statements made by supposed professionals and leaders in the abortion industry. A vigilante, obsessed with the idea of ridding America of a pro-life “terrorist”, inspired by the hateful rhetoric of the abortionists, decided to strike a pre-emptive blow against domestic terrorism.

Unlike those who called for restrictions on speech and guns in the wake of George Tiller’s death, however, my call is simply for those who engage in the same sort of work that Pouillon did to not give up or give in to this cowardly act of domestic political terrorism. Pray for his soul, pray for the soul of his murderer, pray that the daily and wide-scale violence of abortion one day comes to an end.
