About 8 months ago, I decided to leave the UMC. I posted a bit about it here in this forum. Now, after several months of visiting other churches, and about 4 months of not going to church at all, I returned to the UMC church we were attending before. This past Sunday was the first time I'd been there since February.
I came to the realization that even though our chuch has some problems, it's actually pretty good compared to some of the other places we visited. After our dealings with one particular church, I became depressed and seriously considered just not going to church at all anymore--which is why I took a few months off.
Of course, people from our church were sending cards, e-mails, and phone messages the whole time wondering where we were and we just kind of made up excuses for why we weren't there. We were going to send a letter saying we were not going to go to church there anymore, and now I'm glad we didn't do that.
It was good to be back last Sunday. It felt like coming home. Like I said, the place isn't perfect, but I think it's about the best we're going to get, and it does have a lot going for it.
I just wanted to let you guys know I was back with the UMC, in case anyone who read my posts last winter was wondering.

God Bless you all.
Glad you're back. Missed you. And the fact that many of them contacted you while you were gone is a great sign. Sadly, when I left my childhood church of 38 years not one single person contacted me. That seriously affected my sense of self-worth [and some other stuff that happened there].

I'm glad to hear about your experience from the church you left and went back to. Hope things continue to go well for you there.

Maid Marie,
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. Although, I must say it isn't too far from my experience in leaving the UMC in my hometown. Only one person went out of their way to contact me...not exactly the person I really wanted to contact me either. Oh well... A few others have told me that I'm missed when we've run into each other at a resturant or elsewhere.
