Main Entry: cap·i·tal·ism
Pronunciation: \ˈka-pə-tə-ˌliz-əm, ˈkap-tə-, British also kə-ˈpi-tə-\
Function: noun
Date: 1877
: an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market
Thank you Webster.

If I own property which is zoned as rental property, with the proper firecode, plumbing, amenities and such. . .. that would be my capital. Should an individual need a place to stay and be willing to pay what I ask to stay in my property, we draw up an agreement called a lease. A lease outlines his responisibilities as my renter and my responsibilities as his landlord. We sign the lease. He is getting a service in the form of use of my capital and I am getting rent in exchange. Nobody is ripped off . . . that is capitalism at work.

I make jewelry, I put some of it up for sale, someone pays the price I ask for the goods I sell. If I need to sell more than they are willing to afford, I may have to drop my price. If they buy it at the decreased price, I have agreed to sell it at the decreased price and they are agreeing to buy it. Nobody is ripped off . . . that is how capitalism works.

almost 700$ on a decent set of michiline
Bacon2, you had to spend more to buy name brand tires. That isn't a bit different than complaining that you have to spend more to get one of my works in Lapis than the same with Agate. You chose to buy the more expensive (than generic) tire which may arguably be better . . . you probably could have paid more for Pirelli Scorpions, but you chose not to. That was your choice, nobody got ripped off . . . that was capitalism at work.

It ain't hard. You want stuff, they got stuff, you got money, you give money, you get stuff, they get money .. . everybody happy, nobody robbed. Hope I broke that down clear enough. The alternative is clear:

I have to agree more on the side of Macx.. If you want something good (such as a living space) you would have to pay money for it. Basically as we have to work for anything else..

I wasn't saying that to say something bad about his not wanting to get a place. That's his business. If it isn't hurting anyone and not against God, then more power to him..

Exactly. As an anarcho-capitalist (see my Avatar pic) I am very much opposed to coercion and artificial manipulation of the market. If the man doesn't want to buy whatever product (realestate or rented space) I by all means don't believe he should be coerced or forced to e.g. institutionalized for vagrancy or mental illness because of the choice not to conform to social norms. At the same time, I respect private property owners and their claims to property they own . . . so I wouldn't blame them for moving him (the OP) along (by whatever force, law enforcement, violence, etc.) if he squats on their property. Given that public property is generally regulated (parks close, campsite fees, etc.) the opportunity to live for free, free of housing cost I mean, is EXCEPTIONALLY limited.

What I take offense at, is the implication that property owners are some how victimizing people who enter the market of their own free will to either purchase a property or purchase the rights afforded by a lease by renting a property. It is a market, just like buying tires or some of my mighty fine jewelry, no one is forced to buy the product. If however someone chooses to buy a product, they must pay what they negotiate between the buyer and seller. There is no rip off involved.

So why do you keep changing your screen name Taku?

The problem is when you make everything private property or limited use property it pushs people into a corner that can not afford it or that dont want to afford it so there very much is a rip off involved
No. Your first premise is dead wrong. In order for your statement to make sense, you must first support the premise that said people have a right to said property. In order for people who have not worked to appropriate property to enjoy that property coercion or charity have to have taken place. Charity can not be compulsory by definition. Coercion is corruption.

I think its a shame that most of the accessable beautiful places in this nation are gobbled up by rich people instead of being made into public use areas (lake front areas, hill sides with views, etc), it shows how capitilism has become corrupt. Some lakes have hundreds of acres of rich people private property and one little public boat launch if that . ..
Really? Besides the brief time with the Air Force you haven't traveled much I take it. But Alaska is FULL of beauty. There is a wealth of beauty throughout the country that can be accessed neither requiring trespass nor purchase. Further, are you honestly positing that people who can afford nice real estate should not be able to purchase it because you find it more morally palatable that people who haven't earned it should enjoy it? Just what should a rich person be able to do with their money?

Put another way: Send me $144USD. I find it morally objectionable that you have $144 dollars . . . doesn't matter what I have or haven't done, doesn't matter what you did to earn the $144. That is $144 that I should enjoy. Mail it by this time next week. This is not a request, it is an order.

You aren't going to send the $144 are ya? Why*? Isn't that* the same reason it isn't wrong for people who can afford to build around a lake to do so (rhetorical). You can send me the $144 or you can say "yes Macx, you are right" those are the only two options.

Right, so you'll be sending me that $144.

What right does anyone have to that property. . . . . does not sound very christian to me.
Really?

Er, what are you talking about?

How do you feel you may have offended me?

All the name changes don't offend me, it just makes your motives suspect. Why not just pick a screen name and stick to it? I'm no forum admin, so I don't really care if you are trying to get around bans or suspensions . . . it just looks like a lack of integrity on your end. We've talked about that in another thread though, so that doesn't really need rehashed.
