Ok this has been nagging me since the music video came out. There was alot of controversy about it and his album was pulled from many christian book store shelves.
The issue people had was with the music video's image. Alot of people viewed it as non christian. I viewed it as the music video was making a valid point showing the harsh but honest truth of what it's like and how it's bad. It seems to me like alot of christians are to afraid of the truth and only want cookies and lolipops in their sermons and music etc. But how can we stay faithful if we are questioning our beliefs because we don't know what we're saved from? Thats why i love christian bands such as this one and demon hunter because they go out and tell you the gritty truth of hey this is life you still have work to do, you aren't sitting on a fluffy cloud playing the harp yet buddy.
I have discused it with people before, but i wanted to see what my fellow CF peeps thought about it.
((I will post the video on here as soon as i get home))

I can see how, as an artist, he would see it as art. However, it's way too provocative for the Christian community. Even as someone who deals mainly in the mainstream industry, I found many of the parts with the females very unneeded.
yes that's the one i'm talkin about. Does he have another out i dont know about?
Ah ya i do see where some of the stuff with the females was unecesary. Though i wouldn't say it was a matter of him seeing it as art but rather 'hey this is what it was like... it's freeky and its wrong.'
and does this controversy make his music not christian somehow?

Ecclesiastes 9:12 (ESV)
I watched the video and it focues way too much on the partially clothed women. He could have made his point without two women on top of each other in some type of lesbian act. I love that Brian Welch became saved and he is useing his music for good. But he should know that when you show alot of flesh in your videos all you are doing is making soft pornografic videos that will lead other people in to temptation. Even though he was trying to make a good point, he could have done this with more taste. God Bless

Culture Couldn't Explain Him...
Doubters Couldn't Refute Him...
Wherever Jesus Went He Brought Trouble With Him...
And He's Asked Us To Follow In His Footsteps...
Acts 17:6 ..."These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,"
You don't see two lesbians lying on top of each other doing something 'maybe' at the beach. Like followers4christ said, he could have made his point without soft porn.
If someone comes out of satanism do they make a video showing people skinning babies or burning them alive? Why? It's real to them. Is it because people are just too 'narrowminded' and sheltered to be able to cope with the 'real' world that this person has experienced or is it just unnecessarily explicit?
I like Brian Welch as much as anyone in that I've read his book and think his testimony is amazing. However if something is inappropriate then it's inappropriate. If he's crossed the line then there's no reason to stone him for it but neither is there one to say 'oh but he meant well so it doesn't matter'. It does matter.
Christian standards don't change for peoples maturity levels and understanding. Particularly if they're famous. Mistakes are mistakes but they have consequneces and soft porn is soft porn. It's inappropriate for christian viewing (or any viewing really.)
Alice Cooper claims to be a christian yet he's spent decades making a living out of glorifing death and mutilation to millions of people across his career. What fellowship has light with darkness? Either you're committed to following the light or you're not.
People can try to excuse a lot behind 'religion' because they don't want to let go of their sin (and sometimes their income) but other times people are just young on the journey and cross boundaries thinking it doesn't matter. As long as they repent and try to do the right thing it's ok, but when they stay there, they can be used by Satan to spread a whole lot of confusion and damage. Following christ is a journey, which means it never stops, and there's a place for more mature believers to show us that we've slipped up at times and how. That's one of the reasons we need each other.
However anyone stopping on the journey can become a hinderance to other believers (including those in suits with million dollar ministries.) You're either in or you're out, christianity isn't a once off, get out of jail free card. It can cost us everything (that's what the scripture 'taking up our cross and following christ' is all about.)
