I'm looking forward to being able to express my beliefs and opinions without being called names and attacked for being a woman!

Yes, hebrew Christians. People that had been under the law and knew what the author of hebrews meant.

I simply want to give cheerfully and be a blessing to my church that has been such a blessing to me and my family.

I want to get to a place where I hear the voice of God clearly concerning my giving.

I want to give it cheerfully from my heart, knowing that because of my relationship with God, I have heard His voice, and I've done what He has asked of me.

It should be far more than that, because we have a far better covenant.

amen..... these are my most favorite quotes of this thread.....

i whole-heartedly agree with.....

learning to be HOLY SPIRIT-led in giving.....

10% is just a starting point.....

we have a much better covenant and promises......

Love

when i was first saved..... i was led through the BIBLE by the HOLY SPIRIT to all the giving / tithing Scriptures...... i had NEVER heard about tithing or giving..... my denomination took yearly pledges..... and every year you would sign your pledge as to how much you wanted to give..... a $ amount.... or a % amount..... it was all up to each person..... total grace with no pressure of any kind.....

but as the HOLY SPIRIT led me through the BIBLE i saw the 10% number.... and i saw 3 different types of 10%..... so with my brand new partial understanding.... 10% looked "right" in a fun adventurous HOLY SPIRIT-led way.....

and then i was affected by king david (or moses or joshua or someone) not counting the fighting men.... him saying that counting the amount of men was the wrong thing to do..... that trusting GOD and NOT knowing or trusting the numbers was the FAITH thing to do..... and i also heard a preacher teach on ALWAYS asking GOD what to give.....

so those 2 things inspired me to ALWAYS ask GOD what to give EVERY TIME ANY offering was taken by ANYONE..... and with many exciting stories on that account..... i was always amazed that at the end of EVERY YEAR since..... my tax return calculations showed that i have ALWAYS given waaaaaaaay more than 10%......

then i heard testimony of yonggi cho's church believing that 10% was a "baby tithe"..... a place where baby christians started..... and how they were believing for the 90% to GOD and 10% for self......

that sounded even more fun and adventurous..... like a faith adventure in the making..... then i heard of people living totally by faith..... where ALL their income came by faith......

all these things have affected my belief on NT giving..... so i am presently believing that by the leading of the HOLY SPIRIT and the BLESSING of GOD and HIS NEW and better COVENANT through JESUS..... that i will be able to one day see that my tax calculations show that the HOLY SPIRIT led me to give 90%.......

for me it is a faith adventure...... it's fun...... it keeps me "asking" HIM what i should do at EVERY offering..... no compulsion..... only joy and growing in HIM.....

i would NEVER argue with anyone on giving / tithing..... it's too precious a treasure to argue over..... i would try to encourage them on the joys of giving...... and explain the OT 10%..... and the cheerful heart giving of the NT..... and the NEW and better PROMISES and provision and HOLY SPIRIT-leading of the the NEW covenant.... and the 90% givers of south korea (so that 10% looks easy)....

and then i would try to encourage them to ASK the HOLY SPIRIT about this whole matter..... and see what HE says to them.... and then leave it between HIM and them.....

if they really want to know what HE says..... HE will tell them..... they could have the most awesome faith adventure around this whole issue..... and a seed planted will take root eventually..... so i want to keep it joyful and cheerful and without compulsion.... to give everyone the chance to enter into extremely joyful giving and receiving.....

growing up in the church, as a young adult tithing was something i had always wanted to do, but could never manage. So what i did was to give what i could, and I would ask God to honor the 'want to' in my heart, and give me another chance to give. praise God, He did just that!

back then there were times when i could only scrape together .02 cents to put into the offering plate--literally! But God grew both my 'want to' along with my understanding, along with my faith, and eventually along with my income.

Gradually i learned and began to put my faith into action, giving what my heart wanted to, and trusting God for the management of my income for the rest of the week or month.

Now THAT was interesting! whenever i trusted God to stretch the money, it seemed that there were no outrageous bills comming in or things breaking down that needed to be fixed. Even food lasted longer than i thought it would.
in doing so i learned that it was true--I couldn't out-give God.

God being true to His word, has enabled us to stretch our Christian outflow to more than 10% of our gross total income.
The inflationary cost of things that we pay for has grown, while our income remains the same.
But the great news is that our Christian outflow is also still growing, and God is still managing our finances. we do not lack, and we are content.

God is the best financial manager i have ever had.

When i managed our money we were always short and lacking, and i could count on having emergency expenses to deal with. But when i began to trust God to manage it, we were on top of things, and with no emergencies that we couldn't handle. We are content now with what we have,(which is a BIG difference) and we look for more ways to invest in God's kingdom.

The people around us in church who are still trying to do things their way with their money that they earn have money worries, more income than we do, and less to show for it.

We do it God's way, with His money that He freely gives to us, and we have peace.

If He's receiving tithes...I'm givin 'em!

Hebrews 7:21 says "For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by Him that said unto Him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec"

Abraham paid tithes to Melchisedec, and we are the seed of Abraham, so because of the covenant God made with Abraham (which has been upgraded with better promises and is now called the New Testament...but is actually the same Covenant, just upgraded!) and our grafting in, and because to God...it's about sowing and reaping (2 Corinthians 9:10)...yes, tithing is in fact for those that are interested in pleasing the Father.

Also, many that are offended at tithing use this scripture...

2 Corinthians 9:7
Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver.

...to say, we are to decide HOW MUCH to give, which is taking this scripture out of context because it's obviously talking about the attitude of one's heart, not the amount...so this cannot be used to say tithing is not for us today.

I've noticed that some people that are offended at tithing always claim that they give what amounts to being at least 10% anyway...but many use their anti-tithing attitude to...give very little, if anything at all. (Bein CHEAP has it's rewards - 2 Corinthians 9:6)

Jesus said it bast, as He always does, in Matthew 6:21 and Luke 12:34...
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also

He's the guy receiving tithes in Hebrews 7:8...I guess it boils down to either wanting to get in on what the Covenant provides, or not, because there are distinct promises for tithers that apply to us today (Galatians 3:29).

Personally, I like to use God's instructions in Deuteronomy 26 when preparing my tithe because there are certain things God says to confess before Him (ought to be of interest to all WOF peeps), then roll over to Malachi 3:10,11 and remind the devil of what that says (only available to tithers!), and then from there roll on over to 2 Corinthians 9:6-12 which is great stuff to confess!

Hebrews 7:6
But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

Tithing is about having our High Priest Jesus' command God's blessing upon us who are the ones that the promises of God have been giving to...so, don't forget the Blessing of Abraham...this is a Covenant thing goin on with tithing!

Hope that not tithing thing works out for you...

You know...the NT has numerous ABSOLUTES such as walking in Love which fulfills the law (if we love God and man, we won't be sinning against either)...meaning we have things that we cannot do that God says are sin...such as murder, stealing, adultery, etc, etc...

Are there any amongst us that believe just because we are under Grace that we can go out and commit murder, stealing, adultery, and whatever and it's OK with God?
