I voted friendly. I think society idolizes those that stay married. We see anniversary announcements in the paper...we make huge deals out of weddings in general...I think the consensus is still that "til death do us part" is the ideal.

Environment of society is a rather nebulous term, but quite fitting nonetheless. I voted hostile, because if you take society as an organism, like bacteria, then it really does nothing to foster "til death", but instead contributes filth and depravation to the mind, like an onslaught of debauchery nearly everywhere you turn. It's not enough that we must fight against our instincts to be bad(selfish), but society pretty much says it's all okay.
Depends on the "society" referenced. I'm sure you can find that it varies from town to town, city to city, state to state, country to country...

Society loves a love story. In general, I think it is pretty neutral. Most people I know don't care and are uninterested in the particulars of others marriages.
