Its not like he is committing suicide by lethal injection or anything like that.If he is in sound mind i thinnk he should be allowed to make this choice. If he is fit to make this choice it is ok.

Most will agree with you, but I think the issue is much bigger than that. The right to die in Holland started in such a way (a sane person making a decision for themselves) however has changed around and now no one is safe (evidentally not even infants).
If we lived in a decent world we wouldn't have to worry about it escalating to anything more, however we have deceptive and dangerous people who WILL abuse thes types of things if they are legalised across the board.
I actually think he has a stable mind. Havnt read the story. Just thinking about it now, I think that people have the right to be euthanised when they want to die, not just in some particular cases but in all cases. I also think that this man has a right to choose whether he lives or dies depending whether or not he has a sound mind. Its his body so he has a right to choose what to do with it when the time comes and what not to do with it. If I was in his situation Id be alive and well breathing through a tube but Im not him, instead Im a able bodied person with AS ... but I think that this guy has a right to live or die as how he wished to, not as the doctors said he has to

I think it is a very sad case. It was all over the main paper here and the Catholic Paper here (the Record) wrote a surprisingly level-headed and rational editorial (usually the paper is very traditionalist and sides with right-wing views). Wayne Martin's judgement was in my view very well reasoned and spot on, focusing on the right of the patient. I think a part of the problem is Rossiter lived a 'high-flying' life before he became seriously disabled. There are people in his situation who still lead worthwhile lives. His desire to die seems to be based on a sense his life has no worth and is worthless. I would not be for trying to force him to stay alive, but the decision to end treatment would not be an easy one to make.
I believe the man is now dead? I do not get this crazy world we live in. You not allowed to kill a person, yet doing this sort of thing like letting him starve to death is acceptable.
"the silver cord is metaphor for the will
of the lord i was called to climb aboard and explore
thats when i saw the tree of life in the yard
the apples on the floor were gored to the core
the coil spirals remind you but be mindful
external experience reflects whats inside you
inside us all behind the wall
inside your skull but exposed in the song..."
