Is Kyle Sandilands really to blame?

Hello all,

I am deeply disgusted with the fiasco surrounding the controversial phone call that Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O from Austereo recently had where they had encouraged a 14 year old girl to admit her deepest confession whereby the girl had said she was raped at the age of 12 years old.

As a result, Kyle and Jackie have been suspended from working with Austereo indefinitely or at least until the heads can sort out the mess.

I don't like Kyle as a person myself, I think he is a major jerk, but I also think that some of the blame could have been shared by the caller's mother for allowing her to admit what happened on live radio.

What does everybody else reckon?

As the host of the program and as having the final say on what went to air, I would say yes, Kyle Sandilands is to blame. But the stepmother, Jackie O, the program's producers, and Austereo should also share the blame.

I hope that both the girl and the stepmother are actually getting the help and counselling they need.

Hopefully Austereo replace Kyle and O with a good-natured and genuinely funny breakfast program, something like Hamish and Andy.

A lot of people have had theirs hands in this and they all share a portion of the blame.

The biggest issue with Kyle is his fame, and how he profits from controversy.

The mother in comparison profited little.

why would a mother want their daughter to announce that on live radio?

Alas, parental abuse is all too common.

The Mother could be a high functioning person who have undiagnosed Bordeline personality disorder.

I'm very familiar with that kind of abuse.

Of course in our society all Mothers are automatically considered saints.

There's an old addage that you never ask a question unless you know the answer or you want to hear the answer.

In this case they certainly didn't know tha answer and if the did want to know the answer, they hadn't thought through the possible responses.

I think Kyle (and Jackie O and the station producers) made a big mistake, they really should have thought about what they were doing before they did it, the least they could have done was not record it live.

The Mother is the most to blame because she knew what had happen to her daughter, she was the one that subjected her daughter to public humiliation. If she didn't see that the connection could be made between strapping he daughter to a lie detector and asking her about her sexual experiences and the fact that he daughter was raped, then she's a moron and that does not make it ok.

Maybe she has some sort of mental illness that could explain why she thought it was good idea, but that is still NOT an excuse.

Kyle is an easy target, that's why he's bearing the majority of the blame.
