Fried Chicken

DREAM: People were calling and offering to bring food to us like when someone is sick. It was for my daughter (and the family). The people left messages on my cell phone or Blackberry. I think I actually talked with the first person. Her last name means “tree gardener” and the name is of German origin. She asked what Jenny wanted to eat and she offered to take the food to the church building for us to eat it there. It was a Wednesday, so it was for the Wednesday evening Bible study and prayer meeting, I assume. I believe I told the woman, Nan, that I would call her back.

So, I talked with my daughter to see what she wanted to eat. She listed off all kinds of foods (a long list) that she wanted. I knew I would never remember that long of a list, so I had planned to have her talk with Nan personally. Then, my daughter, or my daughter and I, decided to have the meal at the house instead of at the church building. I knew that one person planned to bring fried chicken to the house and I believe that Nan had also planned to bring us fried chicken to the church building.

So, I went through the messages on my phone/Blackberry, beginning with the most recent ones and moving my way back to Nan’s message. I believe I was in a car at this point, that I was traveling with other people, and we appeared to be crammed together in the back seat of a car. At some point here I realized that by the time I finally got around to calling Nan that it was past the time she would have left for the church, so I knew that we would have to go now to the church building to get the food that she was bringing. Yet, I also thought about the fact that if we were at the church retrieving that meal that we would not be at the house when the other person brought the food to the house – a logistical error, I suppose. END

Then, my alarm clock went off, so I woke up. Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Jeremiah 18 and then the Lord reminded me of this dream and then I read Jeremiah 19. This was the part of Jeremiah 18 that stood out to me (vv.11-12):

"Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, 'This is what the LORD says: Look! I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions.' 12 But they will reply, 'It's no use. We will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.' "

Jeremiah 19:

This is what the LORD says: "Go and buy a clay jar from a potter. Take along some of the elders of the people and of the priests 2 and go out to the Valley of Ben Hinnom, near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate. There proclaim the words I tell you, 3 and say, 'Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and people of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Listen! I am going to bring a disaster on this place that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle. 4 For they have forsaken me and made this a place of foreign gods; they have burned sacrifices in it to gods that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah ever knew, and they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent. 5 They have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind. 6 So beware, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when people will no longer call this place Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.

7 " 'In this place I will ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, at the hands of those who seek their lives, and I will give their carcasses as food to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth. 8 I will devastate this city and make it an object of scorn; all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds. 9 I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh during the stress of the siege imposed on them by the enemies who seek their lives.'

10 "Then break the jar while those who go with you are watching, 11 and say to them, 'This is what the LORD Almighty says: I will smash this nation and this city just as this potter's jar is smashed and cannot be repaired. They will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room. 12 This is what I will do to this place and to those who live here, declares the LORD. I will make this city like Topheth. 13 The houses in Jerusalem and those of the kings of Judah will be defiled like this place, Topheth—all the houses where they burned incense on the roofs to all the starry hosts and poured out drink offerings to other gods.' "

14 Jeremiah then returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, and stood in the court of the LORD's temple and said to all the people, 15 "This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: 'Listen! I am going to bring on this city and the villages around it every disaster I pronounced against them, because they were stiff-necked and would not listen to my words.' "

My Understanding: The first thing I saw was that section of Jeremiah 18 where God said that he was going to devise a plan against the people. So, I thought about the dream, what plans had been made and then what plans I changed.

1) We were supposed to meet Nan (the tree gardener) at the church building, but then I changed the plan to meet at the house only I didn’t call her to tell her of the change of plans. 2) I had the feeling as though I purposefully delayed calling Nan until it was too late for her to make arrangements to come to the house instead of to the church building. I could have called her first, but I chose to return my phone calls in reverse order of when I received them. And, 3) I had asked this other person to bring food to the house, but then I ended up in transit with some other people at the time that both the fried chicken from Nan (the German tree gardener) should arrive at the church building and that the other person should arrive with fried chicken at the house. I am not sure what all this means yet, but let me continue…

The passage speaks of burned sacrifices to other gods, it speaks of the blood of the innocent and it talks of burning sons and daughters in the fire. And, it states that God would make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters. A chicken is often a reference to a young or inexperienced (the innocent) person. Chicks is a term often used in reference to babies. Matthew 23:37 says, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.”

So, this could be speaking of literally young children or it could be speaking of God’s children who he longs to gather under his wings. Either way, the “fried chicken” that is being served both to “the house” and to “the church building,” i.e. institutional church, are in reference to this blood of the innocent and this burning of children in the fire. At least one of the “deliverers” of this “fried chicken” appears to be from Germany and is a “tree gardener,” i.e. someone who prunes and takes care of trees. Trees are often symbols of kings or kingdoms.

Jeremiah was told to take people with him and to go out to where the people are and to proclaim to them this judgment; this disaster that God was going to bring upon them. In the dream, I was in transit when I made these phone calls. The scripture states that these messages would “make the ears of everyone who hears them tingle,” which appears to be an obvious reference to talking with them on the phone.

Then, God says that he will ruin the plans of “Judah and Jerusalem,” which appears to be what I am doing by changing the plans and not informing people of the changes, etc. The fact that the people were delivering “fried chicken” for us to eat is a direct reference to God making the people eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, which I don’t take literally. The reason that the people were bringing the fried chicken is that my daughter was sick. My daughter most always represents the true church in my dreams. The sickness, I believe, is spiritual – i.e. the people have forgotten about God, they have been following the stubbornness of their own hearts, and they have been chasing after other gods to serve them, so God has planned a day of judgment against them. And, it will involve human sacrifice. God will turn our enemies against us to deliver to us food that will kill us.

I do believe that God has a specific application to this dream to what is presently going on in the world and in the news, so I’m still praying this one through.

One perspective:

1. Outside offer to bring donation to the sanctuary (as in faith-based initiatives)

2. Change to bring the donation to the believer outside the sanctuary (on secular terms)

3. List of perks requested and organized by an outsider -- you wanted to do this, or at least be involved in what your family needed (faith-based czar)

4. If you chose to stick to your loyalties and rely on gifts from within your faith, you would miss out on the outside donations (government-arranged funding, tax exemption, related tax breaks).

Sunday, August 02, 2009 – I read this article in a local newspaper and it jumped out at me as possibly related to this dream, so I’m praying it through. Health reform show and tell | HeraldTribune.com | Sarasota Florida | Southwest Florida's Information Leader

Ok, this is what I’m seeing, and I think this may also be related to “Apples to Apples” where the person who answered the same “ad” as me deserted his job.

In this dream my daughter was sick, so people were calling on the phone and were leaving messages and were offering to bring food to the house. Specifically, two people or two groups of people had planned to bring “fried chicken” – one to the house and one to the institutional church. This translates, I believe, into health-care, i.e. bringing something to people who are sick to help them get better. So, bringing food for the sick = healthcare = fried chicken. My daughter generally represents the true church, i.e. the people, not the institution. Since we live in America, she could be representing the American people. That would seem to fit here in this context.

The people who planned to bring us this health-care were leaving us messages. There was a paragraph in the news article in the newspaper that was not in the on-line article. It stated: “Democrats say they are concerned that they are losing the ‘message wars’ and facing substantive disagreements within their ranks.” I asked my husband to define “message wars.” He indicated it had to do with all the messages we are being bombarded with from the government concerning this health-care plan and that now people are questioning what they are hearing which is why the government is “losing.” I’m open to other interpretations of the meaning of “message wars” because I believe this is significant to the dream and the scripture. The dream had me using a Blackberry, which I saw as a possible reference to Obama, and I was receiving multiple messages via the Blackberry. Also, the scripture spoke of a disaster “that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle.”

One of the people bringing “fried chicken” was a German “tree gardener.” Trees are generally symbols of kings or kingdoms and a gardener of a tree would prune it. So, this is speaking of a divine instrument of judgment in order to “prune” us. This instrument was going to the institutional church. God has been indicating Germany or a German-Hitler-Like regime as one of his divine instruments of judgment that is going to come against the USA, and perhaps the world, for this may be speaking of the One World Order. Yet, there is another unidentified divine instrument of judgment, as well, as this “fried chicken” is coming from two sources and it is going to two places. The second place was merely identified as “the house” which could be America as a whole or it could be government.

I asked my daughter what she wanted to eat and she listed off a long list of foods. I would assume this, then, is a list of all what should be included in the health-care bill. This was her “wish list.” So, I’m not sure who suggested to the government what all should or should not be included in the health-care bill – perhaps health-care providers, insurance companies, the American public? Yet, I never did give her list to the people bringing the “food” i.e. the health-care bill. So, all we were getting was “fried chicken.”

Ok, on the subject of “fried chicken,” as was previously discussed, this has to do with child sacrifice. When God said that his judgment against them for their crimes of child sacrifice was that they would eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, I did not take this as cannibalism, though it could be applied that way. What I took this as is “the chickens will come home to roost.” Basically, we will pay for our crimes and they will come back to bite us. This is “pay back.” This is God’s divine judgment against the USA and the institutional church in the USA for shedding the blood of the innocent and for sacrificing our sons and our daughters (war; abortion, etc.).

Here is where it gets interesting. I was using a Blackberry. That, to me, triggered “Obama.” Obama, I believe, is a divine instrument of judgment against the USA. I set it up for the “fried chicken” to be delivered to the institutional church and for it to be delivered to “the house” and I left the impression with both people delivering the “chicken” that I would be at the place of delivery only I changed plans twice, at least, to where I was now in transit in between the two locations, which I called a “logistical error.”

For those of you following this health-care mess and who are more knowledgeable than me about all of this, maybe you can put the missing pieces together for me. I read two things in the article that might fit with this “in-between.” One is that the article began by talking about the lawmakers “fleeing Washington” for a month-long recess and that while they were gone White House (Obama?) team would be “retooling its message and strategy, hoping a more modest approach…”

Then, yet further on down in the article it stated that “A key fifth committee in the Senate is negotiating a more ‘centrist’ bill, which could pave the way for a less-ambitious compromise.” Then, further into the article it stated that “By leaving the bill-writing up to Congress, Obama is better positioned to claim success no matter which bill is adopted… and signaled a willingness to consider financing schemes… that were originally not on his agenda.” I was in a car full of people, so I had the feeling that this represented Congress in recess, as well.

I stated that all these changes of plans was a logistical error. Logistical - involving the planning and management of how things are moved, especially military forces or industrial goods; involving the planning and management of any complex task. Error - something unintentionally done wrong, e.g. as a result of poor judgment or lack of care (Encarta). Only, I had the feeling that this was intentional.

In relation to this passage of scripture in Jeremiah 19, I read this in the Zondervan NIV Commentary: “In chapter 19 we have another of Jeremiah’s symbolic acts. He delivers his message in two places: in the Valley of Hinnom and in the court of the Lord’s house; and its theme is the destruction of Judah in that generation.”

Continuing… “The Valley of Hinnom was connected with child sacrifice. Josiah had made the valley a garbage dump for Jerusalem, whose fires constantly smoldered.” I thought this part was really significant: “By forsaking the Lord and cleaving to idolatry, the people ‘made this a place of foreign gods.’ They were making it an alien place by ‘denationalizing’ it so that it appeared no longer Israelite.” – Interesting!

In relation to vv. 5b-7a the commentary states: “The Lord would make their plans fall to the earth. He would empty them of wisdom that could shield them and their country from the enemy.” This sounds related to “logistical error.” And, they definitely were not shielding us from the enemy, but were rather handing us over to the enemy.

The commentary stated that Jeremiah first went to the Valley of Hinnom and preached and then he returned to the court of the temple area where he repeated his message. In the dream I was in the house, I was supposed to go to the church first to eat the chicken being delivered but then I changed plans, I decided to eat at the house, but then I changed plans again and headed toward the church building. The picture I am getting here is that the two places are blended together, i.e. I was in between the two. I believe this is a blending of government and church together, so this description of the “Valley of Hinnom” fits both the government and the institutionalized church.

In vv. 14-15 Jeremiah repeated his message of doom. “Its summary gave the meaning of the act he had just carried out. The crisis is pictured as rapidly approaching. The cause of the nation’s calamity was the people’s stubborn refusal to listen to the Lord’s warnings.”

As I have been following this whole health-care debate, it occured to me that this time via travel in this dream in-between the two places where chicken (health-care) was being provided and where I was getting messages on my blackberry symbolizes this time that Congress is on recess and is having all of these Town Hall Meetings.
