I kind of remember something from a psych class that I mostly slept thru...
Basically it was that some people's self image is a construct that involves their always being right.
For them, to accept any exception to that would be something like putting a pinhole in a tight balloon.
Maybe someone more interested in psych that i was or am knows something about that and could explain it better than I did.
A related deal is for biblical absolutists who have to have every word literally true, if any of it isnt, none of it is... that kind of thing. So if it takes a water canopy, or pi=3.000 in those days, its just different now, then that is what it takes, but NO error can ever be allowed.
Glad Im not stuck in that mind set. Imagine what happens if somehow reality does seep thru and they do see that there is Error in themselves or the book.
I saw your link to some chinsey "antique" store that made up a marketing blurb. Now show me some real history books that back up your claim that swords were "worshiped"
Didn't the History Channel also do these battles ?

Isaiah 8:12-13 (NIV) "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread."
Let's summarize AVET's progress in this thread:
1. Take a story from The Bible with no historical support.
2. Ask for an explaination of it without the Bible as primary source.
3. Conclude that since it is in the Bible that it couldn't have been done without God, therefore God must have done it.
4. Ignore the simple fact that the reason the story is in the Bible in the first place is to show that the improbable is possible with God's intervention.
5. Claim people with a college degree are closed-minded because they do not accept your circular reasoning.
6. Claim victory via circular reasoning and end the thread.
Yep. Classic AV (creationist) m.o. Tautalogical reasoning with a splash of strawman thrown in for flare.
