I have been around the military for a long time and recently I encountered a chaplian that was having an affair while on remote duty overseas. When confronted he denied the affair was even happening and the counter part was confronted and she admitted to the affair and broke all ties with the chaplain. The female is married also to complete the information, however my delima is that should the affair be brought to light publicly as it could ruin families, careers and friendships. Uncertain as what to do, should the spouses be informed of the unfaithfulness or just let things die? |

Something should be done. But I have a few questions.
1) Are you a Christian?
2) Do you have a relationship with this Chaplain?
3) What outcome would you want to see in this situation?

Receiving the spirit of God is a miracle, it's a gift given to those that have been allowed to see their lost condition and they cry out to the Lord: Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. |

2. The chaplain was our post chaplain that led the sunday worship services until he was stationed at another location due to his rotation date. I thought he was e decent person until this affair surfaced. My relationship was good enough for me to confront him and his counterpart when it became obvious what was going on, so I would have to say that we were prtty good friends.
3. I was taught to believe that and overseer of the church was to be a man of one wife as it states in 1st Timothy 3...1Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer,[ a] he desires a noble task. 2Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?) 6He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. 7He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap. Would this not mean that he should step down from being a chaplain/pastor? I also feel that the spouses of the two in the affair should be aware of the situation. What do you think? |

Read these:
Deut 17:6 and 19:15, also read Matthew 18:16
As a single witness you are in a unique situation and one that could backfire on you. But you can first go to him alone, he may well understand that he needs to step down.
But as a single witness there is only so much you can, or should do.
I have no idea what the restoration process for military Chaplains looks like or how it works.
I am not sure how much more help I can be here.
