Hiya everyone, i am new to the forum and want to introduce myself, I am Rebecca. I am studying my MA and am looking for a few Catholics who wouldnt mind filling out a 10 questionaire on your beliefs on Life, death and the afterlife.
I would appreciate this more then you could possibly know and am really looking forward to hearing your replies
If you could email me the answers to the following questions I would really appreciate it and let me know your name and religion
I believe that God either directly or indirectly caused life to start several billion years ago in the form of simple single celled life that then evolved over the next several billion years into what we see today.
What do you think happens when we die?
I think we are judged, but kind of lie ‘dormant’ until the end of time when God separates the people according to where they will go.
What do you think heaven is? How do you envisage it?
I think Heaven is a place of eternal happiness and bliss with God. I don’t try to envisage it, because ‘eye has not seen, ear has not heard’ etc. I figure that means my mind’s eye as well.
What do you think hell is? How do you envisage it?
I think hell is a place of eternal separation from God, where you dwell on what you did and know that God isn’t there with you. And since God is here always on earth, being without Him would be a feeling unlike any other ever, and worse than any other ever.
Do you believe in purgatory or an in-between stage between heaven and hell? What do you envisage it to be like?
Kinda sort. Not really an in-between state, more like a state where if you are determined to go to Heaven you get all your desire to sin purified. Kind of hard to explain, but like... since Heaven is/will be perfectly good, to be there people will need to be perfect. People currently aren’t perfect. Well, morally perfect anyways. Purgatory would be where you are made morally perfect so you can enter Heaven.
Do you believe in God, what does he mean to you and what do you think he looks like?
Of course I believe in Him, otherwise I wouldn’t be Roman Catholic. To me, God means everything. He is the reason for everything. Without God there would be no us.
What does God look like? Morgan Freeman. :-p
But for serious... I don’t know. God does have a physical form in Jesus, but being omnipotent and all he’s not limited to that. I think He will look like whatever He knows will best convey His being God to us.
Do you believe in angels and what do you think they look like?
Yes... I believe that when people see them they will appear as stereotypical angels, because it’s something us people can comprehend easily. Oh, you’re an asexual being with long hair and wings... you’re an ANGEL
What images come to mind when you think of life?
Life. What we see around us. Birth, growing up, eating, the life cycle and things that we do in it.
What images come to mind when you think of death?
People actually dying, form old age, violence, or whatnot.
What images come to mind when you think of the afterlife?
Images from “What dreams may come.” Kinda. I’m not really sure, since, you know, people don’t really come back and say DUDE HEAVEN WAS SO AWESOME IT WAS LIKE THIS!

And, because I won't write anything I'm not willing to attach my name to...
Dunno. Scientists are still delving into this. However, I know that God put it into motion and is still active in the process of the birth of all life.
3) What do you think heaven is? How do you envisage it?
See link above. Heaven shall be our material plane transfigured. God shall dwell even in Substance forever after here, and those who will be Judged as righteous shall become One with His Energies (though not the Substance).
4) What do you think hell is? How do you envisage it?
Again, see the same link. Those Judged as non-righteous shall experience their ever-present rejection as a terrible inner paint; one beyond imagination.
5) Do you believe in purgatory or an in-between stage between heaven and hell? What do you envisage it to be like?
The same link. Sheol is described anyway in the Bible, and Jesus used it in His parable about Dives and Lazarus.
6) Do you believe in God, what does he mean to you and what do you think he looks like?
God is beyond complete comprehension. We can discover sometimes about His Energies by the world and His involvement in it, but there is only one thing we know of His Substance: The Trinity. That took revelation.
7) Do you believe in angels and what do you think they look like?
Angels are God's messengers and heralds. They are also His celestial court. They are not divine like He is, although they are immortal, incorporeal (unless they wish to become so), and are fully in Communion with God.
8) What images come to mind when you think of life?
I cannot describe that.
9) What images come to mind when you think of death?
There is no more death, thanks to Christ. Biologically, we shall die, but our souls shall then forever be in the Presence of our God.
10) What images come to mind when you think of the afterlife?
That depends. Again, the link. Also read the parable of Dives and Lazarus.

For You are the Lord Most High, of great compassion, long-suffering, and very merciful, and You relent at human suffering. O Lord, according to Your great goodness You have promised repentance and forgiveness to those who have sinned against You, and in the multitude of Your mercies You have appointed repentance for sinners so that they may be saved.
