When I was a kid, the doctor came to the house for us kids, when we were sick.
We only went to the doctors office for vaccinations and stitches.
The only health insurance people had in those days, was for catastrophic events, like cancer, heart attacks and child birth.
Everyone paid out of their own pocket for doctors, and prescriptions.
Then, hospitals began charging are ridiculous rates for rooms. I remember them charging $25 for the roll of toilet paper they put in your bathroom.
Then of course the lawyers with their lawsuits took over and everything skyrocketed.
Congress, being made up of mostly lawyers, will never have tort reform, and the insurance companies, will never back down from their giant nest egg.

I lament this as well....It would be good if we can once more localize and decrease the healthcare costs [Universal Healthcare isn't the answer; but neither are Giant corporations, and lawyers sucking folks dry!] This is something that needs major work!
