I'm toying with the idea that heaven is really just the biblical word for the rest of the physical cosmos. Rather than it being extra-dimensional, could it be of this dimension? Could the angels be dwelling on Jupiter, flying through the solar system, even frolicking throughout the galaxies and nebulas of the vast cosmos?
And could this idea of a spiritual realm merely be the result of greek influences on christian theology? I'm also wondering if false cosmologies like geocentrism have influenced the church to spiritualize heaven, so as to avoid the view of heaven revolving around earth?
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Oops, wrong forum! I meant to post this in general theology. If someone would be so kind as to report this post and ask a mod to move it, I'd be much obliged. I'd report it myself, but don't seem to have that option as the OP.

I've never though of heaven as some extra-dimensional area. I believe that heaven is simply the name for the area where God's kingdom is. I believe that angels are constantly moving between heaven and earth on errands for God.
I don't think they are in our solar system though. I actually believe that heaven (where God is) is beyond Orion's belt.

I would have to say that Heaven is a separate "dimension," so to speak. If it is in space it's not in any part we can see. The Urantia Book does a decent (albeit scientifically and theologically erroneous) job of describing what cosmology would be like if Heaven were in the "physical" universe. It plants Heaven at the center of the universe, blocked from view by completely black bodies that absorb all light. The creation is located in various places throughout space, and it is divided by all manner of organizational units.

Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."

Perhaps!

Not sure what to make of this, but why must heaven be a separate dimension? And why did Christ ascend up through the sky on His way there?

Kingdoms are a bit different. England's kingdom is said to have no boundaries, but England itself does.
In this thread I'm speaking of the biblical concept of heaven itself, not God's extended kingdom per se, which yes would include our very innermost beings.
