It's not even "too much Old Testament", in the Old Testament God is compassionate, shows mercy, is patient and long-suffering. Consider the lesson we learn from Jonah, or the word delivered to Ezekiel that God does not desire the death of the wicked, that God takes no pleasure or joy in the destruction of the wicked by desires that that the wicked repent and change their ways so they might live and have life. "Where did all of the people come from that Cain was afraid of from being turned out of the garden of Eden"?
What happened to the rest of the story in Jonah? We all know that Nineveh was blessed by jonah with the announcement to repent and then perished like 150 years later, right?
God destroyed Nineveh so bad that they just found the ruins about fifty years ago.
But what happened to Jonah or perhaps God just wanted us to think about the plight of Jonah and how we shouldn't complain about our surroundings. Almost forgot ... I would like to do this too with the same answer ... I'm kind of shy especially when they start blaming God for all of the wars and the poor hungry people in Africa like it's his fault. By the time they get through ranting a raving I can't think what to say ... not that it would do any good.
Only the Holy Spirit can break down these family members of mine. Lord knows I have prayed for Him to do this, but if they grieve me surely they must grieve Him too.
