when we first came to a Pentecostal Charismatic church
we were seeing many things....this site spoke of the same manifestations within a Catholic setting....if we could have found a Charismatic Catholic
church at that time 15-20 years ago, within driving distance, we might
have wound up there instead of a independant word of faith church |

Greetings Rhamiel,
There is no argument that everyone who is baptised in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is baptized in both water and the Spirit. Catholics complete this Sacrament during Confirmation when we ask for a Fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit and we are annointed with oil and hands laid on us.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit in the Catholi Charismatic Renewal is not a Sacrament. It is very very simply, pulling out the gifts we have already received, unwrapping them, examining them and then putting them to use.
It is also something else. During the classes for Confirmation and during the rite, itself, we are only told about the Old Testament gifts. In the Charismatic Renewal, we are also taught the New Testament gifts. We believe they were also poured out on us when we received the Holy Spirit.

Hi Rhamiel,
I think that you are correct here about us receiving the Spirit at our baptisms. However, what we teach in the CCR is that we must ourselves open up to the grace that we have received (through the power of the sacraments). In this way we cooperate with the grace of God. Most pentecostal christians would term this opening up to the grace of God as "baptism in the Spirit." There is something in it!
