You expect a promise( or anything else) from Pelosi to be worth the paper it's printed on(even when it's a verbal statement)? Surely you jest.
Well, I can at least hope, can't I? Beside a declaration of war, what bill couldn't wait three more days before a vote?

Something that's so bad that they don't want people to know what's in it, perhaps.

"Even as it stands, the Home Guard could only exist in a country where men feel themselves free. The totalitarian states can do great things, but there is one thing they cannot do: they cannot give the factory-worker a rifle and tell him to take it home and keep it in his bedroom. That rifle hanging on the wall of the working-class flat or labourer's cottage is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there."
-George Orwell

-Barry Goldwater
"Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent upon every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence."
-Sir Robert Peel

None and yet with this supposedly more open and transparent and accountable government we've had two major pieces of legislation rammed through in the first six months.
The further along we get the more right The Who was in a line from Won't Get Fooled Again.
obama is their leader, the buck stops with him. He made promises concerning this kind of thing, and he has consistently broken them.
again, this has nothing to do with obama since he has plenty of time to read the bill before it gets to his desk. It's mostly about the house not doing its job. Just because they're in the same party, doesn't mean Nansi Pelosi reports to Obama and the president does not write or add amendments to legislation.
not that it matters, i doubt the bill is even going to pass the senate... this may be pelosi's way of killing cap and trade and then blaming republicans for it.
No, not the stimulous bill. They didn't read the Capa nd TradeEnergy Bill.
300 pages were added at 3am. They didn't want anyone to read them and didn't want the media to be able to cover them(even if they wanted too)
Makes me wonder if the House can read. Or can Peosli just call out a vote and they vote on command? Maybe she signals and they can roll over?
The House is a rubber stamp?
The House even tried to silence Boehner, that was reading from the 300 pages, that no one had time to read.
One question to you Democrats, would this have been acceptable if Bush had done it? We know the Democrats can pass any bill they want, but shouldn't they read them, first? They can win alomost anything they write, but why rush something through after hours on Friday?
They don't want to hear from the people at home. They were afraid people would demand the bill to fail.
The "Stim" bill was so important it had to pass in one sitting(even though the majorrity of spending stil hasn't been seen yet.) but why this one?
Set your kool aid down, and think this one through.
That was an unnecessary flame in the OP. You could at least have waited until you got your kneejerk defending.
I'm not a Democrat, but yes, it smells funny. Is there supposed to be a 3 day waiting period on amendments as well as original bills?
I don't know, but from a quick skim through, it appears that the changes are primarily technical definitions and minor corrections that were probably discussed and agreed upon. It is possible that some sleaziness was slipped in the middle, some piece of legislation that has nothing to do with cap and trade, but unless you have some evidence of that, it is just idle accusation.
Having the staff read the bills and summarize is appropriate. That is what staff is for. It would be irresponsible for your representative to read every piece of every bill and amended bill - unless you think that nothing should ever get done. Members of the committee should be aware of what all the provisions are and they should report back to their parties (and the independents, if asked).
And, of course, as influential as he may be, Obama does not control Congress.

He isn't saying it's better for one party than the other. He's pointing out that many republicans weren't upset by it until democrats did it. In general, liberals tend to be better about calling out their own (though this doesn't extend to politicians). Take a look at the Daily show lambasting senate democrats right alongside republicans for the complete role reversal on opinions of procedural tricks/filibusters from the Bush years to now.
I'm complaining about it now and complained about it then. My response is the same regardless of who's doing it. Did you complain when republicans were pulling this stuff?

again it is about Obama...do you even remember the campaign promises he has broken relating to this issue? How congress was supposed to wait so the people could read the bills? How this was supposed to be an era of transparency in government?
he is the leader of the country and the leader of his party....unless he is just a pupet of pelosi and her minions.....which is possible I suppose and would explain a lot. Either way, obama has proven to be a horrid mistake. God have mercy on us

You would have had to be in the conversations I was in at the time ( I suspect you were under some other name) to understand what I just said. Besides, nothing I said condones, or even implies corruption. I would appreciate you not trying to put words in my mouth.
