Has anyone else noticed the way antiCatholic Protestants attack the Catholic church over the priestly child abuse scandals yet conveniently ignore cases of similar abuse in their own churches. Yes the incidents of priests abusing innocent children were despicable and it is equally despicable the way certain bishops covered them up. However the Catholic baiters who say these atrocities are "proof" that the Catholic church is evil, the "Wh*re of Babylon" etc conveniently forget about the paedophiles in their own midst. From what I've read both on the Net and in certain books written by Protestants children are being abused in Fundamentalist/Evangelical churches as well. Also the number of paedophile priests are a tiny percentage as are the number of paedophile Protestants (though even one priest/pastor abusing a child is one too many!) yet the way the antiCatholic Fundies talk nearly every priest is a paedophile. I just wish our enemies would get their own house in order before they attack us.

The sole reason i pop in there is to help lurkers...and get things straight so more do not fall away.
Its quite a battle of souls in there. I am not nearly vigilant enough, but my thing is - the secular world alone is the absolute worst for pedophila. A high % of all children are molested, and are non religious related incidents.

I've shared some stats with a friend of mine (a high-school teacher) when he once made a snide remark about priests being pedophiles. The facts aren't on the teachers' side side in the public school system.

Teachers, camp directors, parents of other children, family friends, cub scout leaders, and counselors...the list go on and on.
My son was at day camp for scouts and i dropped both my boys off to go run a few appointments but i returned and my son told me this one guy was staring at him most of the time. I looked directly at him. Trying to remember what he looked like, but he was wearing shades, and he left a little while later and i didnt see him the rest of the day.
After that i didnt leave my kids sides.

One good book is called "Healing the Wounds of Spiritual Abuse" by Dave Johnson and Jeff Vondervan(?). While this deals with spiritual abuse mainly it does deal with sexual abuse including one heartrending story of a 13 year old girl who attempted suicide because someone high in the church (not a pastor) molested her and the church did very little about it.

When the cruched the numbers it turned out that the number of child molester in Catholic clergy is lesser that the number of child molesters among protestant clergy and far lesser that the number of child molesters among SECULAR teachers.
It was the misshandling of the problem by some diocesis and religious order plus anticatholic prejudice that made the scandal worse.
Among fundamentalist the problem is very serious becasue they:
1. Have huge problem understanding the concept of mental disease, so mentally ill people often goes untreated until is too late.
2. The ONCE SAVED ALWAY SAVED had let some of them to belive the cannot do wrong.

Pedophiles can be teachers, they can be married businessmen, they can be church leaders, they can be neighbours, friends, fathers, family.
No one demonises teachers and uses pedophilia (or ephebophilia) as a reason to hate and boycott schools. No one demonises extra-curricular sports coaches or camp counsellors. In fact, everyone loves to turn a blind eye to pedophiles and other sexual predators in other Christian denominations, because they just love demonising the Catholic Church and feel comforted in reassuring themselves that they take no part in such an evil.
It is a very ignorant view to take. The issue of sexual abuse, assault, and molestation is a very important one for me. It cuts straight to my heart. I can only imagine the horror that abuse victims endure at any age...
Sexual sins are a direct assault on the Incarnation of Christ - they are an easy way for the Evil One to profane Him and mock His Incarnation. It just breaks my heart.
