1997 when I was 17 years old. I was in traveling through Asia with my father. He works a lot over on that side of the world and wanted to show me the work that he did so I accompanied him on a business trip. We were in Singapore and one of the guys that works for him was going to be late for dinner. The only place we recognized was Hooters so we went in to get a drink at the bar before heading to the restaurant. We ordered a pitcher of Tiger Beer and it was the first pitcher that I ever shared with my father. To me, that is the best beer that I've ever had.
This was the first beer that I had after I left Iraq in April. I took the United flight from Kuwait City to Dulles (DC)...Kuwait is a dry country so no booze could be served on the plane until the door was closed and we pushed back. Given the fact that I was sitting in Business the booze was free. When the flight attendant came by to ask what I wanted to drink I asked for a beer and said "I don't care what type...just bring me a beer." She brought Becks. To this day it was the single best first sip of beer that I've ever had in my life.
The beer that I'm drinking right now as I'm typing. They had beer from Laos at the supermarket. I'd never had beer from Laos and I'll buy a six pack of anything that I've never had...regardless of how it ultimately tastes. Not bad in that watery South Asian beer type of way.
This occurred several years ago and is - to this day - my greatest drinking achievement. A friend of mine and I went out to the local dive bar (Memory Eternal, Dr. Dremo's) as he was pretty broken up. His wife, then fiancee, is a foreign service officer with the State Dept and had just left for a two-year assignment in Guadalajara, Mexico. Between the two of us we consumed 8 pitchers. The only good judgment displayed that evening was taking a cab home. While perhaps not the best decision in the world it provided (and still provides) many laughs for he and I.
I've been to about 35 Jimmy Buffett shows. There is much tailgating and much Corona consumed. Good times.
So...these certainly aren't the "best beers" in the world but they are my "best beers" (you didn't say brand...so I went with best beer experience...lol). The best tasting was probably the Westvleteren 12 that I had shipped over from Belgium. The down side is that I paid $500 for a case. It was totally worth it.
You guys are too big of afficiandos for me. I'm embarrased to put up Michelob Amberbock alongside the beers you know
One should never face embarrassment with one's choice of beer......even an aficionado cannot refuse an ice cold pitcher of Budweiser on a HOT summer afternoon!
