Belonging to a different church from your parents?

Does anyone here belong to a church not pastored by their parents? How did your parents react to the news?

I live in the same house as my parents but attend a different church...my parents are just glad I go to church, and they knew I wasn't happy at their church, but I get plenty of funny looks when I tell people that I DON'T go to my parents' church.

I was interested to see how common it is, since many of us are expected to help our parents build their ministry...

I would say that while I lived at home I did go to my parent's church. I would think that if your parents are ok with it-it shouldn't be a problem and how fortunate you are to have parents that are allowing that.
I would also say that I don't know if I have really come across this that much in all my years of Christian service. I have heard of several instances where the wife wouldn't even attend her husband's (pastor) church. Thought that always strange.
I would also say that I do go to a church where the pastor's son is away from God and that his attendance is sparodic.
Just my observations...it's interesting to think about....!

my father says he didn't care.. But he was very mean towards me until I gave in and went back. But due to yesterday's events I won't return. He can be as mean as he wants, I just don't even care anymore

When I lived in their home, I went to their church and continued in their denomination in other states until . . . well . . . I wised up.

How did they feel about it. Well, after I was well into my 40s, both Father and Mother wrote letters in an attempt to get me kicked out. I did get kicked out, but not because of their letters; it was because I told the pastor that I would not go along with their unbiblical rules anymore.

I guess that after the letters, neither Father nor Mother cared. Perhaps they were relieved. I don't know.

My dad is a military chaplain and preaches at the more traditional service, but I attend the contemporary service and help with the praise team (drums and guitar as needed). He is happy that I am helping out and doesn't mind me not coming to his service.
