Hello
I am looking for a church that applies the tithing principle set about by abraham. Now this church or place that worship occurs has a container somewhere and doesnt "pass the plate". Any church anywhere please respond. If u know of one please hook me up.
This is an important qualification for my persistant attendance.
Passing the plate absolutely sickens me for many reasons.
1. Not teaching the principle of tithing and then leaving it between the person and god exercises faith for finances both in the church and the chrisitian.
2. If a church miss this basic principle what else do they miss i always wonder.
3. The holy spirit would not pass a plate but would rather the box method. I enjoy a place that both has faith in god and listens to the holy spirit.
Thankyou my brothers and sisters in christ.. god bless you all

I'm not even sure I'm allowed to post here,we have been a part of a wonderful body for a little over a year now, anxious for God to convict them on the issue of passing the plate.
However, in our area, the church where I grew up, never passed the plate. It's a small church. I don't know what they do now, even changed the name of the church (don't remember the new name even) When the pastor was convicted to change the format and not pass the plate, offerings went up.
There is also a big church, very large, that doesn't pass a plate, there is a box in the back (well several) we attended there for a while but gave up because there were so many problems at least for us, one being that everything cost money to attend, there was no sense of community which is a bigger deal for us than an offering plate. That church is on line I'm sure, Crossroads, in Ohio, Mansfield.
There are such churches as you are looking for, but I hope you are not looking to find a church which has a container in the rear of the church that you will pass by upon exiting or toss a dollar into. When a church passes the plate, it is not necessarily taking any stand vis-a-vis tithing, but it doesn't keep the doors open for free...yet I know many people who seem to think of any church as a public accomodation, something like a library, which is supposed to be "there for you" whenever you need it, and at no cost to the user. They think that the pastor should work without monetary compensation since, after all, he's doing God's work; the heat and light are just something no one thinks about; and the hundreds of other expenses are not the visitor's concern since, after all, "the worship would go on even if I were not there."

Keep looking I attend a newer non denominational church and we don't pass the plate ad haven't since we began we use what we call a "joy box" our offerings are just fine. I know of another church locally that switched to this and had their offering go up they are out there.
A Church that does not teach tithing and free and generous giving is very vulnerable to schemes of darkness especially in financial matters and also from a general spiritual perspective....accelerate your exit...
There is a huge difference between teaching tithing and free and generous giving...and passing the offering plate every Sun. morning, sometimes everytime the church door is open.
Debates about tithing/offerings belong in a different forum.
Let's stay focused on the topic please. Can you name some churches that don't "pass the plate?"

Crossroads-Mansfield, Ohio and a small church I attended growing up, changed their name since then, and don't know if they pass it now, but...Rainbow Valley Chapel in Plymouth, Ohio...in fact, when they stopped passing the plate, offerings went up....
Calvary Chapel and the Vineyard are two churches I have seen that make a point of having an "agape box" in the back of the room instead of passing an offering plate. You might try them. You will probably also have a better chance of avoiding offering plates at non-denominational churches or churches with contemporary worship, since an offering plate tends to be a more traditional accoutrement.
As a point of information, however, there is no correlation between churches which pass the plate and churches that pressure their members to tithe or preach inappropriately about finances.
This is something that varies from congregation to congregation within denominations more than it does between denominations, and since we know nothing of the range of churches existing in your particular neighborhood, my best advice would be to phone around and ask the question of your local churches.
