I just want to know if you have heard of Donnie Swaggart and if you have, what are your opinions on the things he says against Word of Faith?
It almost seems like he just makes stuff up off the top of his head (like the bumper sticker story. That sounds too bizarre to be true). Does anyone know what his hatred for WOF is all about? |

His father used to be WoF but rejected it later, most especially the "Jesus Died Spiritually" teachings. Jimmy Swaggart has written articles and preached sermons against WoF. Donnie is simply following in his Dad's footsteps.
Somewhere on my web page I have rebuttal against an article Swaggart had written some years back. I was even invited personally by Swaggart to debate him on television. I was ready to pack my bags and go but was talked out of by my friends and my pastor. They knew that I would have been at a disadvantage going there by myself and perhaps getting shouted down.
On the other hand, I purchased Swaggart's expensive study Bible and I still think he is a very good teacher. An overemphasis on the cross at the neglect of the ressurection is the main problem I have with Swaggart. But he still is a good Bible expositor and worth listening to when he is not criticizing WoF.
His son on the other hand is difficult for me to listen to.

a lot of what we believe is being taught in other denominations as well.
this Sunday, I attended a local COG, I uploaded the entire worship and sermon. it is 1hour and 45 minutes flash video. but if you watch it you can see what we believe in the worship and sermon. Jesus my Lord video sermons

You should have went and tore Jimmy a new one. Just kidding.
Donnie is hard for me to listen to as well. He likes to yell, scream and I even saw him start crying one time. I guess he thinks the more emotional you are, the more valid your argument is. I don't know. :shrugs: |

Believe me, it was tempting but I also saw the validity of my friends. His whole staff against me. It is one thing to debate someone on a forum where you have time to read their point and then think through and do some research. Face-to-face with a bunch of Swaggart proteges backing him with me all by my lonesome would have been difficult.
That aside, SWaggart is a good teacher and his study Bible has some good notes in them. I quoted from it in a message I taught on God's will for healing some months back. Check out what Brother Swaggart has to say about the leper Jesus healed: And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed (Mark 1:40-42). Jimmy Swaggart: “According to the Greek, His Word healed the man and not His touch; when He touched him, the healing had already been effected, and the man was ‘clean;’ the words ‘I will’ forever settle the question of the will of God to heal the sick. – Jimmy Swaggart’s Expositors Study Bible Swaggart may have his faults like the rest of us, but I definitely agreed with him enough here to quote him. And I don't make a habit of quoting from preachers who are hostile to WoF teachers.

Thanks VW!

I wish when people would make claims, they would state the source, and not include everyone within a denomination with that label.
His video was sad.
anyone know if there has been any tangable proof of healings etc. etc. under his ministry? anotherwords not just talk.

I've noticed this too. Even in a Baptist Church.

Thanks VW indeed. I used to think "If it is His will..." I now know it is His will. This just underscored it!
