Japan trades with Europe and with America!
Like the British you are an island people on the edge of what has traditionally been perceived as a hostile mainland. That same mainland offers new threats and opportunities today with the rise of China and other emerging Asian economies.
You got rich by immitating and then improving on Western designs. For the last generation you have been rich and in some areas e.g. electronics - the worlds innovators - but your rate of growth has levelled off significantly. Being crowded islands and prosperous islands having babies has not been an attractive option. As a result your population is getting old, has lost energy and is starting to decline. You see robots and technology rather than immigration as the solution of the question of who does the jobs noone else wants to do. As a result your population declines even faster.
Japan was a military power till defeat in the second world war. Then it became an economic power under American protection.
In my opinion the finance crisis and the rise of China are both forces acting to change the Japanese identity.
The finance crisis has shown Japanese companies that export led growth can collapse overnight, Japanese savers that putting their money into other peoples risk taking businesses risks losing everything and that Japan needs to be creating its own opportunities for savers to invest in. Also the world and its opportunities have moved to Asia.
The rise of China and military commitments of the US means that Japan needs to take a larger share of the respponsibility for its own defence.
Japan in my view needs to start having babies, open up new research frontiers e.g. ocean and space, globalise in its instincts, open up to people from other countries, remilitarise to some extent. It needs to shed notions of superiority and start wrestling with the real world that will otherwise overwhelm it. It needs to invest in the rising Asian powers with out losing its technological edge.

Hot women, great animation, great video games (except the cheesy japan only games, but I'd still love to see them all here), great food (some weird stuff though), politics I'll leave to the other posters.
I'd love to visit Nihon but at 6'-3" I think I'd break everything.. you're such a small people (not a necessarily a bad thing). |

Well, here are some things wrong i guess.
1. We arenīt small people. We arenīt chinese. Iīm 5-"9" feet high. All others around me are similar.
2. We need no immigration. Japan will never allow massimmigration. That would destroy our culture. If somebody want live here, we expect 100% adoption. Even if he adopt 100%,e only is accepted but will never be japanese. Its is very hard and nearly impossible to get our citizenship.
3. Japan was and always will lead asia. No matter about China. There were times where China was world power but wasnīt able to even compete with us. I donīt see China as threat. China is highly dependend on our investions.
4. Japan is leading in science and engineering.
5. Japan has a strong military, that i called self defence forces. But i think it should stay the way it is. Japan donīt participate in big scale with american wars.
We are not the world police. We are not so primitive, that we need that. US Army can defend us. They did chose it that way, so they have to do it.

Your products have destroyed our economy and I'd like to see them outright banned, or at the very least, have such a high tariff placed on them that most Americans won't buy them so we can reinvigorate our industry.
Also, your country does make some very substandard cars. Toyota's, Honda's and other little oddities. I'll take a union made car from GM any day over one of the Japanese model. |

No, we simply forgot to remind the American public of who they were buying their cars from. Your country should be very thankful I was not in Congress in the '80s because if I had been, there would be no Japanese auto industry today |

Your men have a strange and uncomfortable attraction to young girls, and in general women are treated like meat.
Modeling as a hobby(model kits) is huge in Japan and your country produces some of the finest scale models in the world. Takayuki Takeya and Yasushi Nirawsawa are both geniuses of design.
I don't like your food.
I have owned a Nissan Pathfinder for over ten years and it has been for the most part an excellent vehicle with few problems. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
