Yes. Japanese people are not the only people trying to build a space elevator. People in other countries, including the USA, have been working on it for quite some time. Have a good weekend!

Nasa have clearly been thinking about this for a while:

The Audacious Space Elevator

But I do not see much evidence of a budget for this despite the potential returns.

Japan seems to be the first country to make a serious effort in this direction and the funds they have provided for carbon nano technology are a massive step in the direction of a Space Elevator. Also while Obama "gets space" I amm not sure that means any extra commitment to it in the current circumstances. Personally I think the USA should fund more research in this area if it wants to keep its edge in space in the long run.

Yes, because God stood over us with a cosmic shotgun and made us borrow money hand over fist and burn fossil fuel without bothering to seriously develop alternatives before it got too scarce to run our civilization.

And God made the Japanese reproduce less, and instilled them with a fear of foreigners so their population would crash.

Here's a thought: how about we human beings step up to the plate and accept responsibility for the bad decisions and boneheaded policies we've enacted, and work to change them, rather than blaming God or citing "His wrath" as a reason for our troubles?

Hate the food, like some of the media, like the history and strongly dislike the politics. I am generally less anti-Japanese then most people with Korean descent as most Japanese, who are not right wing nutjobs, generally are pretty aware of their crimes in the past from my experience.

Their foreign policy needs some major work of course. I personally find their recent policies in DPRK incredibly irresponsible and populist. Yes, I understand the issue of Japanese kidnappings is a big deal, but the Foreign Ministry has been using it to get brownie points domestically which is just ridiculous.

I'll play, even though this post is nearing two months old. It won't be pretty.

Yes, Japanese people are smaller on average than western people. Not that I'm tall, but Japanese, like pretty much all east Asians, really are shorter than pretty much everyone else.

BTW, Japanese people almost surely have the same descendants as Chinese in the past. Actually, not almost surely. It's surely.

2. We need no immigration. Japan will never allow massimmigration. That would destroy our culture. If somebody want live here, we expect 100% adoption. Even if he adopt 100%,e only is accepted but will never be japanese. Its is very hard and nearly impossible to get our citizenship.
Foreigners are NEVER fully accepted into Japanese culture. You're right, it is very hard to get Japanese citizenship. Even if someone does, they still face racism around every corner. Not allowed into some hot spring resorts, bars, clubs, certain establishment, still harassed by police for their "foreigner card" even though they're a citizen. Occasionally thrown in prison temporarily for not having their foreigner card even though they don't need one. Having their businesses ruined because they're foreign. Japan is only a welcoming country on the surface.

3. Japan was and always will lead asia. No matter about China. There were times where China was world power but wasn´t able to even compete with us. I don´t see China as threat. China is highly dependend on our investions.
Japan hasn't always led Asia. In fact, it was considered very "backwater" until not so long ago. Japan's economy is slowly, and eventually will be, overtaken by China and India.

4. Japan is leading in science and engineering.
Yup. Will it in 50 years?

5. Japan has a strong military, that i called self defence forces.
And it is internationally illegal. Japan isn't supposed to have a strong military, but for some reason they keep pouring money into it and building up their strength again. Nevertheless, Japan is really nothing more than a protectorate of America and the UN.

BTW, you say you worship Amaterasu, who is said to be incarnate into the emperor. That's the same reasoning that the Japanese aggressively, no matter what your teachers, textbooks and national museums say about it being a passive war it liberation for other Asian countries, followed Hirohito, Tojo and the leaders of Japan at that time into war with China and later with America in the Pacific War. The empress, by the way, is Christian.

But i think it should stay the way it is. Japan don´t participate in big scale with american wars.
Japan's "self defense force" went to Iraq. Sounds like a big scale American war to me. Not very "self defensive" either.

We are not the world police.
I beg to differ. The SDF went to Iraq. Japan bows to America as part of its "international police force", for lack of a better term.

We are not so primitive, that we need that.
Yet Japan still does it. Not YOU, but the government of the country you are a citizen of. Please get out of that "we" mindset. It's just not healthy.

US Army can defend us. They did chose it that way, so they have to do it.
They don't have to do it, but it serves their economic and political interests best. Also, if Japan is relying on America, why do they need the SDF?

We need no immigration.

1.We don´t want them here. Most foreighners smell weird, are lazy and not very educated.
The only ones we really accept here with full honor are germans.

Funny, I WORKED in a large Japanese factory INJapan that had Chinese, Koreans and Mongolians working in a Japanese company. I know from first-hand experience that you have no idea what you're taking about.

Best example for that is the Xbox360 console from Mircosoft. No matter what microsoft does, nobody buy that system, no matter how cheap they make it.
Yet, you're probably typing this using Microsoft Windows... as do most Japanese.

My teacher said, he would cut his hands off, before he buy an american product.
Is your "teacher" uyoku dandai? Are you? I bet your teacher uses Microsoft Windows.
the whaling industry is very small^^

I personal did never eat whale!
How is "accidentally" killing between 100-150 whales a year for "scientific research" very small? I see whale on the menus in a lot of the izakayas I go to. The only country that even compares to that is Korea. I had the "pleasure" of visiting a whale "processing" factory there, in Ulsan. The third worst offender is America, with between 0-5 whale accidental fatalities a year. Hypocritically, I have eaten whale.

Honestly, I really do like a lot of things about Japan. I love Japan, but will readily admit that it has a lot of problems. Heck, my wife is Japanese and I live in Japan. Right-wing nationalist people who really haven't seen the world drive me nuts. Unfortunately, our right-wing minor from Kyoto hasn't posted here in a while. I wonder if he'll come back and respond anytime soon?

I like the Japanese people and their culture. As far as business ties, I don't know what I would change. It seems the Japanese are really motivated technology wise. That's good I guess. And you are all really motivated as far as learning. I wish our children were more that way.

In all fairness, with an increasingly aggressive China as a neighbor, and Russia too, can you blame Japan for wanting to beef up its defenses?
