Cool! My opinion is you have your own culture, some things I like, some things I find...odd, some things completely baffle me.
tulc(who suspects we're the same)

I'm a bit self-conscious when it comes to forming opinions about Japan because as an anime fangirl, I am naturally biased towards japanophilia.

In 60 years, you've gone from being a war-torn, bombed-out ruin, to the 2nd greatest economic power in the world. Sure, you had help from the US, but it's still an amazing feat. Especially considering your country is totally a nation of smallish islands with few natural resources. The reason you've achieved this is because the Japanese ethos is much less individualistic than the West. Your tradition is to emphasize the welfare of the group-the collective, national good-- over the individual good. But that also makes you extremely ethnocentric. You'll do business with non-Japanese, but you inwardly believe they are your inferiors in most respects. This is your biggest fault, and is quite offensive in my opinion. I'm a white, native born American, and I don't want this to be taken in a racist manner. I honestly mean it as complimentary. I think the two most accomplished ethnic groups in the world are the Japanese and the Jews. You're both incredibly talented and productive peoples. But I wish the Japanese, in particular, would be more tolerant and accepting of non-Japanese.
BTW, For 25+ years, my wife and I have only driven Japanese cars. We've been very pleased. Though her Avalon is assembled in Kentucky.

I know that we may appear racist and ethnocentric. I know that our behavior can be insult for others.
But you saw the point. We are a cellective. We see ourself as one nation under one emperor under one sun. We work together so that all have good life. Our culture, our way of life, evrything is based on that.
Your system is totally different from that. Your system scare us as much as ours scare you. I was in USA and i often felt unsecure, because "too much freedom", too much ethnics. I didnīt know how to behave right and all that.

You should check your facts mate Human height - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Average Japanese 19 year old male is 5 ft 7.5inchs and average urban Chinese 18 year old male if 5 foot nine inches. So you are tall for Japan and average for those parts of China where there is anything like a similar diet compared to Japan. Americans were 5 ft 9.5 on average (white males were 5 ft 10.5 and Brits were on average 5 ft 10 2. We need no immigration. Japan will never allow massimmigration. That would destroy our culture. If somebody want live here, we expect 100% adoption. Even if he adopt 100%,e only is accepted but will never be japanese. Its is very hard and nearly impossible to get our citizenship.
Thats your choice as a people. Personally I think that you will fnd that that approach will not work very well in an increasingly globalised world. You are young and maybe you have not really thought about the strengths of a non-Japanese culture so you do not yet know what your people are missing. Also I know a load of japanese people who live outside Japan who know how wrong you are and would measure that in terms of your nations trading prospects. The Japanese model is failing right now and a little more humility would go a long way. I suspect that the residual belief that Japanese culture is superior to all others is the real reason here. Smug superiority before a fall, the humility of someone open to the truthes that other races communicate before honour. 3. Japan was and always will lead asia. No matter about China. There were times where China was world power but wasn´t able to even compete with us. I don´t see China as threat. China is highly dependend on our investions.
Not sure where you get this idea. You never conquered India and did not even finish off China at your military peak. However you are smaller in terms of numbers than both and always have been. Your economy is already smaller that Chinas and for most of your history was smaller than both Indias and Chinas. From what I remember you got lucky and a few storms saved you from the Chinese fleet. Much like we Brits were saved from the Spanish aramada by a great storm also. Thank God you are still independent of China seems a more appropriate response. 4. Japan is leading in science and engineering.
This has been very true in electronics and cars. But we will see how japan comes through the recession. These two product categories are the hardest hit and Chinas stealing a lot of your technology and producing stuff much more cheaply than you are so your lead may not last. 5. Japan has a strong military, that i called self defence forces. But i think it should stay the way it is. Japan don´t participate in big scale with american wars.
We are not the world police. We are not so primitive, that we need that. US Army can defend us. They did chose it that way, so they have to do it.
You were dependant on the US for most of the last 60 years for your defence. The rise of China and over exposure of the Americans means you will have to do more. Your spending is high by international standards but small as a % of GDP.

1.We donīt want them here. Most foreighners smell weird, are lazy and not very educated.
The only ones we really accept here with full honor are germans.
2. Chinas economy is 3rd world. They are quanitity, not quality.

We said the same about you guys in the fifties. Now Japanese companies manufacture in China. Are you saying these products are substandard- they seem fine to me. Globalisation is already happening in your big companies, its just the street culture that is lagging behind

You are wrong. Japans big companies use chinese as cheap workers. You wonīt find foreighners in our companies. We donīt even buy foreighn products.
Best example for that is the Xbox360 console from Mircosoft. No matter what microsoft does, nobody buy that system, no matter how cheap they make it.
My teacher said, he would cut his hands off, before he buy an american product.
