GM CEO: Bankruptcy Likely; Firm May Leave Detroit

General Motors is open to considering moving its headquarters from Detroit, selling off U.S. plants and even renegotiating parts of its restructuring plan with its major union, the new chief executive said Monday . . .

GM CEO: Bankruptcy Likely; Firm May Leave Detroit - Automotive * US * News * Story - CNBC.com

Any wonder?

Detroit is the most liberal city in America.

In 2008, Forbes ranked Detroit #1 in its index of America's Most Miserable Cities.

75% of students entering 9th grade in Detroit never graduate from High School. Only 67% who make it to their senior year graduate.

The FBI is investigating Detroit public schools for corruption.

Last July, the FBI announced it was investigating Detroit City council members for corruption.

Last fall, Detroit Mayor Kwame Malik Kilpatrick resigned after pleading guilty to two felonies.

In 2008, ACORN held its annual convention in Detroit.

The Obama/Pelosi/Reid so-called "stimulus" bill allocated over half a billion dollars (two thirds of it "discretionary) to the Detroit Public school system.

What do those other links have to do with GM leaving? Upper management doesn’t live in the same conditions that their workers live in. Their children will be going to private schools and corrupt politicians are good for business.

Nah....who runs major cities in America has nothing...NUTHING...to do with business leaving. Has nothing to do with the spiral into third worldness. From New Haven to Detroit to East St. Louis, it isn't the fault of those who manage these cities how they turned out, is it? The murders last summer in Chicago (twice the number dead as Americans killed in Iraq) can't be blamed on the Chicago machine and its policies. The UAW and the politicians it supports don't have nuthing to do with nuthing bad happening. Neither does the cronyism, the corruption, the political machines and the bleeding of taxpayers.

This things just happen. Or its all sombody elses fault. Somebody over there.

You have either intentionally ignored the economic incentives provided to GM, or your argument is so poorly researched you were not aware of them.

Please explain which one.

Has nothing to do with the spiral into third worldness.
It does not appear that you know what "third world" means. The term is not applicable to this case.

The murders last summer in Chicago (twice the number dead as Americans killed in Iraq) can't be blamed on the Chicago machine and its policies.
By your own posting it clearly cannot. If you could make a coherent argument claiming the two are related, you would do so. The fact that you have to resort to innuendo is clear evidence that the two issues have no real relationship.

You are aware of how you kill your own arguments?

The UAW and the politicians it supports don't have nuthing to do with nuthing bad happening. Neither does the cronyism, the corruption, the political machines and the bleeding of taxpayers.
No. If you had an argument you would produce well reasoned and logically consistent statements instead of relying on libel and innuendo.

This things just happen. Or its all sombody elses fault. Somebody over there.
None of the above.

In what way is Detroit any way like a 3rd world nation?

Yeah, take away the electricity, multinational corporations, all high school graduates then it might start looking a little like North Korea.

Would you by chance be trying to imply a causal link between the first point and the rest?

Move to Louisiana. Right to work state(UAW is gone), Republican governor, and Louisiana would drool to have GM move their headquarters to Shreveport or Bossier.

About the Republican governor thing.......that's not likely to remain the truth after 2011 and Democrats still control the legislature (as we have in most Deep South states since we kicked the Yankees out)
