You wouldn't expect christians to do this but I see this more and more. I see young people, college age and above, coming into myspace groups, starting off as christains but leaving the staright and narrow, twisting scripture etc.
One woman started to "backslide" when she examined her beliefs about homosexuality. she began to believe the liberal christian take on this, welcomed gay atheists into her group (all of these people were at one time christian,) and now...
on top of that I have been trying to talk a her out of not falling into adultery. as I already said many of the people there are exchristians but those who still claim to be christians say the most awful things about Jesus. They call any talk or art about his sufferings "emo." they won't even awknowledge that Jesus doesn't want us to have sex before marriage and when I quote his word they curse and mock me.
Truthfully this makes me both angry and sad. Others who are actually faithful christians but have a more protestant bent ask me why i talk so much about the cross and the Passion. "He's no longer on the cross!" they insist. Seeing these young people, Christ's sheep loosing themselves in thorns and turning aginst him must break his heart.

A few days ago I watched Stephen King's Despertion on DVD. It had been long time since I read the book and had only caught the movie mid-stride a couple times.
The movie is a real gory and bloody horror- but I was really surprised that the movie centered on a young boy's unbreakable faith in God- even when his own mother and others scorn and belittle his faith. One person in the movie tells the boy that his God is more cruel than he well ever know. In the end, even after having lost both his parents- the boy still holds true to his faith professing God as a God of love.
So I went to YouTube to see how other people responded- complaints about the movie centered around the faith issue- some guy said he believes in God, but the overemphasis in God was a turn off- another complained that they counted the name of God used in the movie over 120 times.
Brang back to mind how when VeggieTales was bought by a major network and all references of God were deleted as was the prayer at the end- so as not to offend anyone (this was done although the network had made promises to the original creators it would not edit the episodes). This same major network sent a battalion of lawyers and lobbiests to DC in order to fight for the right to air the "F' word in its programming.
I think its important that we continue to fight the good fight. "Occupy until I come," said Jesus.
Now fighting the good fight in love, sometimes its really hard not to knock so called christians upside the head when I am trying to present the basic facts of christian life and they oppose me evey turn.
If your a christian at least follow the ten commandmens. If not...don't call what you believe "christian"

I've come to learn over my 58 years, that there are people who turn to Christianity, out of the desire of their ego, to have an identity, that draws attention to themselves. Hence, they tell their non-religious friends, that they're becoming Christians. The reaction and attention gives them pleasure and so they continue on the path. However, after that wears off, and they find out that grace from God doesn't come cheap, they begin to back away, to the point of eventually falling away.
Some, instead of backing away, will turn to Catholicism, in order to feed their ego. For many, converting to Christianity was one thing, but converting to Catholicism, is over the top and provides more ego stroking attention.
They too will eventually fall away and worst yet, will become staunch anti-Catholics.
I've always said, that without faith in Jesus Christ, religion will serve only self, i.g. the ego.
Faith in Christ requires death to self and surrender to Him in all things.
When religion gets tough, you won't try to change the religion, but yourself.
Jesus parable about the seeds, is applicable here. Those that fell upon rocky ground, get strangled and die. Those that fall on dry ground, never bear fruit. But only the one's that fall on fertile soil, will grow and bear good fruit.
The source of faith is Jesus Christ. Without a strong relationship with Him, you will not grow spiritually. Your spiritual growth will be reflected in how much you love.
Jesus must be hurting when people turn away from Him. He only wants our love!! I pray for the day when all will love Him!
I am now seventeen years old, and for the first twelve years I did not believe in any God- then I began to practice some of my mother's Hinduism along with my school's Catholicism...around 2005 I became Christian (at heart...I have yet to go through RCIA)...and now I love Jesus...so many times I ask His forgiveness for all those years of not loving Him...these people who are born Christian and throw it all away, when some people like me and some others on CF are longing to fully commune with the Church...dear God I pray for them...Jesus shower all of us with love...
Love in Christ,
your brother, Jonathan

"O take my heart, Thou Loved One; let it be transfixed with those dear wounds for love of Thee. O wound it, Jesus, with pure love of Thee, and let it so be crucified with Thee that it may be forever joined to Thee."
