Well, the Bible was a normal part of public education from our founding until the 1960's and then it was removed.
So? Isn't the Govt's job to give religious instruction to people.
And homosexuality was very taboo, even criminal, until they started coming out of the woodwork, demanding rights based on the practice, and parading through the streets. Sodomy was considered a crime in most all of the states until 2003.
And that's a horrible situation for a supposedly free society.
I mean, I didn't even know that homosexuality existed until I was in my early teens.
And I didn't know there were creationists until the internet
So..."Christians attacking and vilifying gays/pushing creationism" isn't exactly how things are in America. It's more like Christians in America have conceded to homosexual/evolution agendas because what we believe was first and established for nearly 200 years.
As I said, we mostly lack the type of self righteous, outwardly focused, aggressive Christians that seems to exist in the US.
The harder you push, the harder people push back.
Also, slavery was established before equal rights.
The founding fathers are rolling in their graves because of what America is today!
I never met any of them, but the only thing I do know is that The Founding Fathers, like God, always happen to support the positions of everyone who appeals to their authority.
So, your perspective of what is happening in America is a bit skewed.
Well our perspectives seem to differ greatly but I don't think I'm wrong in saying that certain American Christians have worked at demonizing gays, atheists, scientists -nearly everyone who isn't them, really- in ways that most Australians would find bizarre, irrational and totally unreasonable.
PS: Why do you have a UN flag as your country icon?
Well, our flag was designed by people who thought of themselves as British citizens rather than Australians, it's the flag of a colony not a real independent nation.
"God save the Queen" is no longer our national anthem, yet the Union Jack remains and is similarly a relic of that era. I'm an Australian republican.

Even if (God forbid) we should ever become a republic, I don't see why that means we should change the flag. Whether we are a republic or not, the flag as it is is still the flag that best represents all our shared history.
Even Hawaii still have the union jack on their flag.
People who say they are Christians say they love but where is the action that comes with that word? we are to serve this nation with Love. If we went out n did it, then we would see our nation change.

Father Bob did, now he's getting 'fired'.

No, Tenka...there's a lot of people who have the UN flag as their country icon and I'm just asking why because the UN is not a country. It's not an attack or anything, I just don't understand why.
It's kinda weird why it's an icon because this is an American site and from what I understand the USA neither respects or acknowledges the UN these days. Or has that changed since Bush left office?

I think it has changed.
i think obama deeply respects and admires bloody dictators.

Obama wants to empower the UN and is doing everything he can to do so. People see that he wants to subject the US to the UN in many ways.
The UN has a pending agreement of all nations for a cap and trade scheme in December in Copenhagen. This will empower the UN (give it money) if nations sign the treaty. I know Australia is against it in their own country and many Americans oppose it in ours.
And you're right, under Bush, the UN was considered a joke and still is by many, many people who wish they would move to some other country. But they are safe here, protected by our freedom and strength.
There are a TON of people on this site, I've noticed, who have the UN icon and who are also atheists/agnostics. I've been debating several of them in the American politics section. I keep asking them about their icon and nobody is answering.
So, I don't know what's going on but it's definitely strange.
