| God knows that many won't get healed.. I have a friend who tries SO hard to be successful at her work at being a mum and at contributing to church.
She is surrounded by those who do make a success at their marriages, childrearing and ministry.
She wonders why God chose her. Her life is an also-ran.
But when you consider her background (children's home, abuse etc), I think she's done OK. Doesn't help when she's always asking what God is trying to say about her financial and other troubles.
She wants what others have, which appear blessings from God on the righteous (home, husband, suurounded by children), but this hasn't worked out for her.
I was thinking about Christ's words about marriage and being eunuchs. Some people don't marry and some people can't marry. Some have made themselves eunuchs for Christ's sake and others were born that way and others were made that way by others.
It seems to sum up the human condition, even for Christians. Some Christians (but not many in my view) have decided not to marry because they want to be single-minded for God. Most unmarried would like to be or have wanted to be married, but they have such disfunction because of upbringing or misfortune or bad parenting.
They are just not very marriageable. Some divorces have happened because the partners were just immature or unable to adapt.
But it's wider than marriage. Many perfectly worthy pleasures and fulfillments are denied us. Material success, emotional fulfilment, physical health, rounded personality. Because we are 'eunuchs' and not of our own making.
And we'll go into eternity without finding fulfilment in these things. And it's cruel for other church members to say it's lack of holiness, or prayer or good decision-making. |
