As you might be aware, an independent Green business association handed out Earth Day grades for each province & territory.
This grade was issued by the independent Corporate Knights group to mark Earth Day. It looked at 10 environmental categories including greenhouse gases, green energy, water use, biodiversity and car dependency. The research was conducted through online research and informal expert interviews, collecting most information from federal government websites and reports.

The "right minus wrong" calculations seem to punish inaction more than actual environmental damage, making the overall grades less credible. Alberta had a 30,000 L oil spill last June & they get a "D"?!? What did Anne of Green Gables (PEI) do to deserve an F--walk on the grass?
That being said, my home province of Manitoba deserves an F for environmental damage and inaction. We build hydro dams w/o clearing the reservoir land first, which results in excessive mercury contamination of the surrounding waterways. Manitobans also prefer to pay $1.30/L for gasoline pollutants that could easily be replaced by 60 year-old technology which converts hog waste into earth-friendly car fuel(methane) for about 10 cents/L.
