For those who would like to study the Word. This is a place to discuss the Bible so that we may gain greater understanding and keep the Word in us. I will be posting a chapter a week, updating on Sundays. I will post the chapter and the titles of the chapters. So, we can come back and discuss the chapter throughout the week. We can discuss what we learn from the chapter, how to apply what we learn to our daily lives, and ask questions.
This is for discussion only, so please, no arguing...just nice friendly discussions. So, love your neighbor (anyone who's around you at any time) as yourself and do unto others as you would have then do unto you.
So, the chapter for this week is: Luke 6 (Lord of the Sabbath)
What I understood from that chapter is that Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath, and I think he is showing us that simply that we can do selfless good deeds and selfless good work on the Sabbath. It also shows that the Pharisees think that it is unlawful to do any work at all. Jesus Christ is Lord he is teaching them the true interpretation of the law for He is Son of God,who was with the Father when the laws were made and before them. However as it is prohpecised, it is inevitable that they would not see Him. Their blindness is evident in this passage.
Absolutely right..Should you not though look at the Sabbath and attack it from all angles (other verses/chapters).
Bible says:
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." (Exodus 20:8-11)
But when you read on Luke 6 that somewhat throws the OT reading out the window.
and if your read Mark's Gospel you find the same thing: "And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." (Mark 2:27)
"So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.” (Mark 2:28)
To back up the act of Jesus on the Sabbath: "Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath." (Colossians 2:16)

If we lose our job, we worry about the bills. If we get sick, we wonder if it is 'the big one'. Are our children going to do well when they grow up? Will I have enough money to retire with? Will my lack of medical insurance mean I'll end up going bankrupt? Such concerns, which are part of life, are tests of our trust and hope in God as well as His faithfulness to us.
Sorry, I have not kept up with posting the Bible studies. I had a computer crash and had to get another computer. By the time I was able to get back on here I totally forgot I had started this group until I came on here now and saw it.
I would like to keep this group going. So, I will from now on be posting the Bible studies regularly. As I had said, it will be a chapter a week and will be posted on Sundays. Well, sense it's now Wed. I will just go ahead a post one that we can discuss the rest of this week and next week, then I will began posting them every Sunday.
Chapter for the rest of this week/next week: Galatians 5 (freedom in Christ)
