Hi,
I'm looking fro suggestions as well as venting...
I have a very keen interest in Japan and am teaching myself Japanese. And I absolutely LOVE my Japanese music. However, it hit me the other day that all my fave music is stuff I downloaded. I felt so bad that I threw out, not only almost all of my Japanese and foreign music, but any dvd's I had made too.
I desperately want to listen to my music but don't want to give credit card numbers over the internet.
Does anyone know of any stores in Canada that sell this kind of music?
Thanks

Most stores that sell music/dvds usually have ways of ordering hard-to-find titles... why don't you start asking around at stores in your area? Try big stores like Chapters etc. but also see if there are any smaller, more specialized names and ask them too.

Aww, yeah me too! i feel so guilty when I became a real Christian. I downloaded most of them in Limewire before. I didn't delete them but what I did I contribute or buy their cd's from that day forward. God understands your situation and if you cannot find those in your area, just pray for blessing for those artists of the songs you downloaded.
I'm not sure if I got your point but hopefully i helped a lil' bit. I like Japanese music too by the way.

I have never used a specific music download site. I got all of mine from music videos (like veoh or youtube). I deleted almost everything but I ended up getting an itunes account (which got me only 1 artist back....).
I prayed about it and told my mom, and she said that if I was meant to have that music, a way would present itself. A day later, I found two cds with music I had deleted! (not Japanese but still ones I loved)
Thanks for the encouragement I am still wrestling a bit about where to look or what to do from here on so it is nice to hear from you

You can buy a lot of mp3 format music online, saving you the import prices. Try itunes store, for example. As well, what about used CD shops? The independently owned ones sometimes have imports. The itunes music store has Japanese artists. If you're worried about your credit card at these places, it's no problem. They are legal businesses and you are protected. Credit card companies have protection for you in case of theft and you can have charges reverses that you did not make! I've been using credit cards online for well over 10 years without a single issue.
Also, it's not illegal to possess copied music in Canada (it is in America, as far as I know, but we aren't talking about America...). A lot of musicians do support free distribution of their music, going so far as to offer their released CDs for download on their own official websites. Don't be under the impression that this sort of stuff is necessarily stealing. It's not all black and white. For example, it's perfectly fine to listen to your favourite Japanese music on an internet radio station and record it/download it onto your computer for personal use in Canada. Mass copying it and selling it for profit is very illegal, but you aren't doing that. It's entirely possible that the stuff you threw out wasn't illegal at all.
I found a nice Matsuda Seiko (松田聖子) set from... I don't know, maybe 1980? I hope you already know and love her music, because I do! She was on TV on NHK channel one tonight (about an hour ago) and was looking absolutely great. She honestly looks 25 years old. I'd want to marry her if I wasn't already married to a beautiful Japanese girl.

Thanks for the response
I do have an itunes account but only one Japanese artist that I like is on there. As of yet, I haven't seen a used cd store in my area but I will look..
Because it is foreign music, I don't know the legalities surrounding it... but even if it isn't illegal, something really convicted me and said it was wrong. I am still wrestling with it because I see no other way to get the music that I want without paying an arm and a leg to import it.
