Question Science Fair Ideas

Our family plans on home schooling and I wanted to start gather a list of ideas for my son to use in science fairs that represent a young earth viewpoint. I was thinking of things such as the layering we see in geology, rapid formation of fossils and cave formations and whatever else young earth creationists may think would be a good idea.

How about a real "experiment" as opposed to a demonstration?

Research what is required to make limestone deposit and what will make wood rot quickly. Then put a rotting solution on a wood carving, (say the word Jesus) and bury it in a waterproof box with a limestone depositing solution dripping through the box. I am betting that if your solution is right, you can produce a fossil in only around three months or so.

Some years ago I found a piece of petrified wood a little over two inches thick and about 6" x 8" on the flat sides. It was so smooth and even on each side that I felt sure it was a piece of petrified boadr.

Your post reveals a great deal of ignorance. If you are an evolutionist you should not even be posting in this forum by the way. Here in the Twin Cities area there are YEC science fairs for kids on a regular basis. I also have been to creationist meetings where children wrote scientific papers to share with the adults. These are ways to get kids to love science and to not hinder their learning abilities by some of the poor science "goo to man" evolution espouses.

MatthewJ1985 got me thinking. I looked on a creation organization web site here in the Twin Cities, TCCSA. They sponser a science fair every year and they had a list of ideas. Thanks for your help Matt.

One of my student brought me some "stalactites" (straw type, about 5" long) hung from a bridge which is only 20 years old. I am not sure where did he find it. But if you can locate some, it would be a good demo on how fast the cave deposits could be made. This is on the same line as the one suggested by Biblewriter.

That is a good idea. In our old apartment building I saw one form in about a year that was a couple inches in size in the underground parking stall. I should have taken it with me when we moved out. It would also be interesting to see what the effects a world wide flood would have on cave formations.

So your proof that they are actually doing scientific work is that they hold science fair's for children? How does this not fall under "seminars geared towards the scientifically literate"?

I suggest you talk to someone with ICR and find out about all the scientific research they are involved in. Also, there a more young earth scientists in the secular world then you probably realize. Are you an evolutionist by the way? If so I don't want to assist you in breaking forum rules.

This is certainly a scientific experiment, but has no bearing on the age of the Earth. If I understand correctly, you are suggesting that this process is to demonstrate rapid fossilization. Unfortunately, this process is entirely different to fossilization. This process deposits a stony layer on the surface of the item being petrified, it does not replace the actual matrix of the item with stone, which is true fossilization. The latter process takes hundreds of thousands to millions of years.

Hmm.. I don't know any good experiments that would be easy.

But I just figured out a good experiment that i could try , which may in fact prove how old the Earth is.
WOW! , I may actually win a Nobel prize.

Consider this.
There are millions of earthquakes all over the earth each second.
These earthquakes happen at a very small scale , and happen all the time.

Now if the Earth were really millions of years old , you wouldn't expect a fossil to survive millions of years , due to the fact that millions of scale 0.1 earthquakes happen all the time.

Instead , the fossils we have today would be dust if they spent millions of years in dirt.

I am going to try an experiment soon.
