ya, but not our Jesus, but theirs...the false one....that everyone will worship as God..not god(s) only, but God.

it seems like it is the Word and their lies will help set up and fool the planet.

but they will believe a supernatural fallen angel, who is cast out of heaven and down to earth for a short season. Rev12....his abilities will cause the world to believe his lies and worship him as God returned...to Christians, that is Christ. he (and his angels) shall even look the part 2Cor11:13-15, Rev13:11

IMO it means that many shall claim to be Christians, claim to come in His name, but God did not send them...they are tares and fakes. There are some very obvious ones on TV these days...gimmie, gimmie, gimmie..but it is the unobvious ones that are the trouble...hard t see them, subtle message...but enough to take away truth and possibly send you down prim rose lane...thinking everything was just fine....and then BAM! One reason I dislike pre trib rapture so much...

so there are false teachers, and some of those teachers have so many believers that if they were removed from their position to early, it might destroy some of their crop...the wheat might get hurt in the process...

that's why God Himself will do it after the tribulation hour of temptation.
Only one comment. The devil has many false prophets. Jesus said to beware of false prophets. You mention false teachers and the false prophet. You said that the devil is the false prophet. Do you believe that the devil has false prophets? Just a bit of clarification.

Eleyah,
Your question is one that of course brings up much debate and conversation. Please remember that the translation of the bible begining with the KJV was written on a very basic level so all men can understand. Please also understand that the words of Jesus mean exactly what they say. There will be a false christ (someone claiming to be the son of God), please try to think in terms of how can we be deceived if Jesus is telling us ahead fo time.

MT 24 & 25 addresses hebrews to be decieved by another hebrew to come, otherwise you end up with a lot of confusion within revelations as to who is later addressed.

Just The Facts has disabled reputation
Hi Eleyah

I think you have received some very good answers here...............I agree it is someone claiming to be Jesus returned.

There are many teachings around this some say it is a jew claiming he is messiah they refere to jesus saying I come in my fathers name and you will not accept me but another will come in his name..............

But matthew makes it very clear this is a person claiming to be Jesus returned.

23: Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not................27: For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Now most miss this but we have just been given an amazing way to know what the AC does..............

We are told

24: For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders;

Paul tells us

2Thes:2:9: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

Now we know what Jesus does at his return Paul tells us

8: And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

So Jesus destroys the AC AT HIS COMING

So since we all know this .........if the AC is going to try and deceive us he is going to have to acomplish Two things

1. He is going to need convince the world that someone else is the AC. This will be the job of the false Prophet.

2. He will have to destroy this false AC at his arival.

Scripture is so clear that the AC CAN NOT be some political leader we all know ........Who will believe Obama or Tony Blair is Jesus returned.

Dont forget he is trying to fool the Saved not the heathen but the Saved....Ask yourself why would the devil waste his time trying to fool those who are already deceived ...........stupid isnt it.................Satan is out to deceive the saved and in order to do that he has to do what scripture says Jesus does at his return...............If the AC can not imitate this is some cheap way he will fool no one.

So ask yourself some simple questions and you will finnd some amazing facts

I have heard pastors talk about this verse and explain it as the false Christs arising claiming to be the messiah. Now I know that this fact is discussed later in this same chapter and elsewhere in scripture, but I do not think that this explanation fits this particular passage. I am inclined to believe that Jesus is talking about teachers claiming Christ as messiah , then proceeding to deceive many with false teaching.

Am I getting this right?

Thank you for taking time to read this.

God bless!
Matthew 24: 4-5 is referring to those who falsely come in the name of Jesus as well as those whose teachings are false. Remember Satan wants to be like the Most High and stated that he would ascend into heaven and reign over the stars (Angels) of God. He also said that he would sit in the sides of the North ( the city of Jerusalem). Isaiah 14: 12-14. We have to understand that the spiritual wickedness in high places are the pulpits of the church, which is the highest place on Earth. The men in these positions of feeding the flocks, teaches them the lies and deceptions of Satan, which in turn deceives the people into worshipping another Jesus. Make no mistake about this- I said another Jesus, for Satan and his fallen angels pass themselves off as angels of light(Truth). 2 Cor. 11: 13-15. If this is the case, then what are thee ministers that falsely portray themselves as ministres of light? They are nothing more than false prophets that are doing the works of their father- satan. It is in this 11th chapter of 2nd Corinthians that Paul warns against false preachers- those that will come teaching another Jesus. We are to take heed so that no man deceives us. Hopefully someone will get some understanding from this.
Peace To All In The Mighty Name of Jesus,
Ariel

Exactly. It just means precisely what it says. Why add anything to it?

I understand Jesus makes other statements later in that chapter. But in this particular scripture, the meaning is very straightdorward.

The reason for that was because Messianic Judaism was rife at the time and Jewish messiahs were popping up every other day around Judea and Galilee. Let me give you just a few examples of messiah’s around Jesus and the apostle’s times;
Josephus writes;

About 44 CE, a man named Theudas appeared, claiming to be a prophet. He urged the people to follow him with their belongings to the Jordan, which he would divide for them. According to Acts 5:36 (which seems to refer to a different date), he secured about 400 followers. Cuspius Fadus sent a troop of horsemen after him and his band, slew many of them, and took captive others, together with their leader, beheading the latter ("Ant." xx. 5, § 1).

An "Egyptian" is said to have gathered together 30,000 adherents, whom he summoned to the Mount of Olives, opposite Jerusalem, promising that at his command the walls of Jerusalem would fall down, and that he and his followers would enter and possess themselves of the city. But Felix, the procurator (c. 55-60), met the throng with his soldiery. The prophet escaped, but those with him were killed or captured, and the multitude dispersed.

Another would-be-messiah, Josephus reports, promised the people "deliverance and freedom from their miseries" if they would follow him to the wilderness. Both leader and followers were killed by the troops of Festus, the procurator. Even when Jerusalem was already being destroyed by the Romans, a prophet, according to Josephus suborned by the defenders to keep the people from deserting, announced that God commanded them to come to the Temple, there to receive miraculous signs of their deliverance. Those who came met death in the flames.

Menahem ben Judah, the son of Judas of Galilee and grandson of Hezekiah, the leader of the Zealots, who had troubled Herod, was a warrior. When the war broke out he attacked Masada with his band, armed his followers with the weapons stored there, and proceeded to Jerusalem where he captured the fortress Antonia, overpowering the troops of Agrippa II. Emboldened by his success, he behaved as a king, and claimed the leadership of all the troops. Thereby he aroused the enmity of Eleazar, another Zealot leader, and met death as a result of a conspiracy against him. He is probably identical with the Menahem ben Hezekiah mentioned in the Talmud (tractate Sanhedrin 98b) and called "the comforter that should relieve".

Bar Kokhba, My favourite;
With the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem the appearance of messiahs ceased for a time. Sixty years later a politico-Messianic movement of large proportions took place with Shimeon Bar Kokhba (also: Bar Kosiba) at its head. This leader of the revolt against Rome was hailed as Messiah-king by Rabbi Akiva, who referred to him, Numbers xxiv. 17: "There shall come forth a star out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite through the corners of Moab,", and Hag. ii. 21, 22; "I will shake the heavens and the earth and I will overthrow the thrones of kingdoms. . . ." (Talmud tracate Sanhedrin 97b). Although some doubted his messiahship, he seems to have carried the nation with him for his undertaking. He had coins made with his head on it and a name, “The morning Star” and “Messiah” which were distributed and used in place of roman currency. After stirring up a war (133-135) that taxed the power of Rome, he at last met his death on the walls of Bethar. His Messianic movement ended in defeat and misery for the survivors.

Jesus was warning his disciples in his time…it has nothing to do with us, although we can learn a few lessons from it…
Amazing insight. Thanks!

Agree with Socratez 67 and chingchang.

Jewish believers in the first century and Jewish believers in the Tribulation have been and will be watching for a Jewish Messiah to redeem Israel and establish his earthly kingdom.

The Church is waiting for their Savior from heaven and the redemption of their bodies.

Two totally different programs.
