Isaiah 48:17 "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go” Psalm 27:13 “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” In life we go through times when we feel that life could more useful for God or that life is ticking on and still one doesn’t seem to be doing any great work for God or fulfilling that ministry that was once hoped for.
Perhaps we may feel “what is the purpose of my life“, I am not doing any exciting work for God. We may feel that God has forgotten us or that what we are doing in life seems to be making little impact on the world around. We may feel life is passing as by and hopes and dreams are fading or faded. We may feel that as we grow older that our lives will become less blest or happy or fulfilling than when we were younger.
We may not be involved in some a work or ministry that we really would hope for not be in a situation that we really want to happen, but we can be assured that our lives at this very moment in time are as blest and useful and pleasing to God as they ever could be.
Isaiah 48:17 "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs / leads you in the way you should go” Here we have the key verse. The Lord our God really does care and even though we cannot feel or sense it; He is DIRECTING or LEADING us ALL the time in the way that is BEST for us.
This means that if I love the Lord and seek to follow his ways and will and to as much as possible live a life that pleases Him, the we can 100% know that God is each day leading us unconsciously in the RIGHT way and the BEST way fro our lives.
He IS TEACHING us (Active word) what is BEST for us. That means He is showing us each day or each period of our lives what is BEST for us at that current time.
If we are just going about life going to work and doing small things for God then this is the BEST for us NOW at this time in our lives. This may be how it will always be, whatever is BEST for us in His eyes will be relayed to us, by how He DIRECTS and LEADS our paths.
We may feel that we are not living life to the full in the sense of some exciting service or that our life’s tasks seem so small and nothing, but we have nothing to fear for it is BEST for us NOW.
We should therefore enjoy life to the FULL NOW with whatever small things we may be doing and most of all ENJOY and DELIGHT in God Himself.
In heaven our whole fixation will be on God Himself and not whatever task He may give us there.
Our delight here and now is to ENJOY JESUS and His love and company to the full, other things will occur as God leads.
Each day God is DIRECTING us in the way we should go. We probably will not be aware of it or feel anything but the promise is true.
This also means that my life can feel 100% useful, blest and fulfilled for God each day, even if I do not feel very blest or useful or doing or being involved in the things that I dream of. I may not have that relationship that I so long for or that ministry that I want to be involved in etc yet I can be assured that my life COUNTS for God and His plans for me. I can be assured that I am in His perfect will and that He is working out His purposes for me to be a blessing to people and to do His will and work whatever that may be in the future as well as now.
I can be assured that my life COUNTS as much as that person who is doing some really exciting fulfilling ministry for God.
Of course we may have dreams and desires in some kind work for God and that’s fine, but we mustn’t think that if that thing doesn’t happen then life is less than it could be!
Remember the Lord leads us in the way that is BEST for us and whatever my situation now even ifs its painful it is BEST for now and this very moment. Trials and Joys are part of the BEST for me at the “Moment in Time” .
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” This verse now LINKS into the previous one. You see God has good plans for us and ones that are for our GOOD and BLESSING. They are ones that will PROSPER US in our spiritual lives and bring us closer to God as well as enrich our lives.
God has already PLANNED out our lives, He wants to BLESS us but not harm us.
Also concerning our dreams there is a hint here that God will in some measure or way bring us into the BLESSING that we are looking or hoping for. Another version says “..to give you the future you are hoping for”.
The key lessons to learn are that my life is BLEST now by being in Gods PERFECT will even though I may not feel it and even though my life may seem dull compared to others.
Joseph in prison must have felt life was dull and a trial and well not counting much for God, but God “prospered” him where he was. It was the BEST for him at that time and God was filling him with His love and all the time DIRECTING his paths in the way he should go until he was led out and blest be a great work.
We need to try and live each day as the BEST God can give us right now whether in JOY or SADNESS and be aware that God truly loves us and has our BEST interest at heart and wants us to be filled and HAPPY in life as we could ever be no matter what our situation. The nearness of Jesus is the chief key to being and feeling life is fulfilling even without those extra things we would so hope or long for.
Getting older:~ We may feel that as we grow older that our lives will become less blest or happy or fulfilling than when we were younger.
The bible talks about older people bearing fruit in old age. The wonderful truth is that God has PLANS for us at all points in our life! He has many GIFTS, SUPRISES, BLESSINGS, MINISTRIES, FULLNESS of LIFE etc for us at every stage of our life.
It doesn’t matter whether we are HEALTHY or ILL, YOUNG or OLD or whether we are bound by ailments or illness, God has the RICHEST LIFE that we could possibly have at any time or situation in our life.
OUR life WILL have JOY and MEANING and PURPOSE to the FULL as it did when we were younger or healthier.
The Lord will more than compensate for the things we cannot do as we get older! He will FILL us with inner JOY and OVER FLOWING happiness of Himself alone. John 4:14 “But whoever takes the water I give him will never be in need of drink again; for the water I give him will become in him a fountain of eternal life” Our lives will not be a mere trickle of a spring but a GUSHING SPRING of REFRESHING WATER from within us by His Spirit. The Lord will SATISFY us to the FULL and make our lives as RICH and BLEST as at any other time in our lives.
Remember Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” These PLANS do not start and finish while we are in our youth or prime! They keep on going at every stage of our life right up until the day we die. God has PLANS for our lives for each year of our lives! The PLANS He has will be WONDERFUL and as FULFILLING as they could be at any other time in our lives.
Psalms 40:5“You have done many things for us, O LORD our God; there is no one like you! You have made many wonderful plans for us. I could never speak of them all--- their number is so great! The blessing of growing older is that we can look back and be overwhelmed at all the way He has led us and all the things He has done for us and all the things we have been able to do in what ever capacity our health allowed. The JOY of the Lord will increase with age as we have more to look back at and praise God for!
BUT that’s not all He still has MANY yes MANY WONDERFUL plans and surprises for us! He wants to bless us with so much at every stage of our lives and not just while we are young and vigorous. We can look forward to the FUTURE and MATURITY because of what God has got planned for us. We would be overwhelmed if we knew!
The verse Paul said Philippians 4:11 “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances” I suppose we need to adopt this attitude in our lives as well.
Psalm 27:13 “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” In all of this we can rely on this promise that God will show His goodness to us even now in our lives on earth.

Actually I’m just approaching the mid-life mark, getting there, compared to like my grandfather‘s span (another 7 years I guess). Gee like compared to how I was when I was young, I look kinda forward to getting to the older years. I mean closer to the goal, yes, but if my rate of change is as much as it were from like the past 20 or so, it’ll be pretty awesome to experience, as it has already been shaping. Pretty right on with Psalm 34:12 I would think. Wish I could live to like 400 though lot more rewards to pile up in heaven in any case. What we do in this life counts into the one to come. Though, at the rate world events are going... hey but just means the kingdom is closer

well as i see it getting older means getting closer to Jesus through the trials of life gone by. So it does have some advantages
Well it’s not automatic. I know people that are 10 to 20 years older, yet are about the same spiritual age as me, but are at the spiritual level I was when I was 18 years old… or younger really. I’ve participated in discipleship training with people that in one year, they were more spiritually mature than some that had been Christians for 10 years or more. There is no real even spiritual growth for anyone, no set pace, just matters about commitment levels and involvement. In seven years, someone can spiritually grow to a point equal to another person that has been a Christian all their lives. I’m not at any ultimate pinnacle yet, I’m just laying it out for example if it helps. There is no real way to define it, people are just different, and it’s just dependent on those depths we strive for, that we surrender to.
