Reps: 720,752,524,392,893 (power: 720,752,524,402) | | | Does Anyone REALLY Believe All the Bull...I Mean, Agitprop? Does anyone taking a good, serious look at America (heck, most of the industrialized world) going off the cliff really believe all this propaganda that it's Obama's fault? The fault of any single person, entity, or group?
Raise your hand if you think:
1) Overpriced houses in America are crashing industrial civilization?
2) God is punishing us for putting a person of African descent in the White House?
3) This is just another recession and it's the media's fault for "blowing everything out of proportion?"
4) There's a secret stash of a couple trillion barrels of oil that an environmentalist conspiracy is keeping us from having?
5) The "free market" will magically pull a car that runs on water out of its bum and we'll have happy motoring forever?
Does anyone here actually believe any of the folderol in circulation around here and in the media?
Or is it finally dawning on anyone here that we've been living an unsustainable fantasy for the past three to four decades, we're in deep doo-doo, it's getting deeper, and none of our leaders know how to swim? Is anyone else here ready to stop the partisan nonsense, and get to work doing things that actually matter and, just maybe, try and rebuild our country on a smaller scale so our children have a viable society to live in? |

Reps: 171,778,080,654,963 (power: 171,778,080,674) | | | People were told they could afford houses they couldn't, and banks made the loans- fault=Borrowers, loanmakers Solution: Let some homes fall into foreclosure, evaluate mortagages on the verge for
fault, if bank is at fault force them to extend loan 5-10 more years, so people can afford to make payments but aren't getting away with anything. No one benefits from making bad loans. Automobile industry: overloaded with regulations to make a better car, forced to pay
extremely high wages and benefits to unions, making a product that doesn't compare to overseas vehicles. fault=designers, goverment, unions, management, Solution: Allow automotive industrys to file chapter 11, renegotiate contracts, work with Congress to reduce the onesided requirements, Make better cars, that meet or exceed foriegn cars. Health Care: Health care cost bankrupt many people, some with insurance. One moderate injury or illness wipes out savings and puts all finances in jeopardy. Cause: Goverment interefence(medi care/caid), Insurance companys, high mal practice insurance Solution:Reduce regulations and goverment controls so that it doesn't take a team of clerks to do the paperwork for one visit.
Insurance reform, Set realistic limits on litagation awards.(no lottery win for a Dr making a human error, even if it costs a life.)
Credit use: over use of credit cards, "free credit" let people pump up our economy on credit, and when the people couldn't pay, the credit lost massive moeny.
Gas prices: high gas prices greatly reduced peoples ability to pay their bills. Find alternatives to gasoline, but produce fuel as a buffer to the world market impact.
Each one of these paid a part in the fall of our economy. Some have been working towards this for a long time(up to 3 decades), so Obama isn't going to save the day.
He might be/probably is making things worse, but even Obama can' change the world/nations economy in a month.
Making things worse:
Can't spend trillions of dollars over 3-10yrs and get a lasting effect now, and expect to have the upper half of earners start paying it off with higher taxes in 2 yrs.(about the time the recovery starts.)

Reps: 40,866,991,403,631 (power: 40,866,991,408) | | A very good point - trying to sustain growth year on year is just leading to enormous waste, and using that as a measure of success just means using up the oil faster.
The oil barons are happy with that, they can get their fortunes quicker and retire to Dubai: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
