I've known some people who were Plymouth Brethren. It's very hard to answer your specific question, however, because the PB are broken into a number of branches. All are non-ceremonial and value the idea of the "priessthood of all believers" somewhat as is the case with traditional Quakers.
Some are more legalistic than others. In my own view, it would be correct to call all "legalistic" except that the ones called "Open" Brethren hold to the idea that all believers are equal in God's eyes, irrespective of church affiliation. But on the other hand, that's a stardard principle among the churches of the Reformation anyway.
The best thing would be for you to sit down with someone who attends a PB church and ask him or her your questions, if you have a Plymouth Brethren congregation nearby. |
