Perhaps my problem has been seeing keynesianism as the basic economic policy of the status quo whether it be centrist democrats or neo-cons.
I am no longer sure that a laissez faire economic program is the proper alternative, or even viable for that matter. This does not mean that it isn't right, it just means that it has been beaten. It's a bit like postmillennial theonomy, very loud, very cogent, but ultimately marginal.
For this reason, I am tending to see the alternative to rampant monetarism to be not a hands off capitalism but, in fact, more intrusion by the state.
In other words a modified socialism (and don't give me any slippery slope crap, the fact is that ALL the western liberal democracies, the US included, are modified socialist systems).
I am sure that a big part of the problem is that I live in Detroit where we do not have the luxury of indulging in theoretical abstractions. We need solutions that will make an impact now or this city will be a crater.
Survival of the fittest may be the law of the jungle, but it doesn't have to be and, indeed should not be the law of the market.
Having said all that, I thank you for your time and will look forward to seeing you elsewhere.

"Even as it stands, the Home Guard could only exist in a country where men feel themselves free. The totalitarian states can do great things, but there is one thing they cannot do: they cannot give the factory-worker a rifle and tell him to take it home and keep it in his bedroom. That rifle hanging on the wall of the working-class flat or labourer's cottage is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there."

"Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent upon every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence."

You don't like people who are members of the Libertarian Party? Because that's what the capitalized version usually means.

Probably. I would have selected the Keg Party if it was available, but alas, no.

Oh, ok. I'm an LP member but not a stoner. So I guess we're ok?

Depends one what the target is. Apparently you'll get alot of grief if you put liberal professors in your crosshairs, other than that, its all good. I mean who doesn't get a kick out of ripping off a belt of .50 cal into a cement truck?
