I just wonder: Does anybody think about what pressure some pastors are unter (or pt themselves under)? Yo are supposed to be better than anyone by many, you try to live by this standard and still get the message through, you got this and that to do, when you are invited, and the more popular you are, the more invited you'll be, nobody will understand if you don't eat at least one piece of cake...
Why do people not think about: How can I help my pastor loose weight rather than: Why is my pastor so fat and does not work out or eat less...?
I think most goes back to community pressure and the resulting stress. And some are just a bit bigger than others. Remember, God made us all as idividuals, the fat and the slim...
God bless

But these fat preachers don't want to lose weight. It helps their presence. A sign of God's blessing and anointing. I notice the wives and preacherettes are all well turned-out, manicured and fragrant and slim.
But if the end of the world's coming soon, why bother about keeping slim and caring for the world's resources. Environmentalism is a distraction .
I wonder how much YOU weigh, salamacum. I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find something wrong with your weight and berate you on an internet forum board for it.
But...obviously that would not be the Christian thing to do.

I think some people have profoundly misunderstood this thread.
In fact to notice a person's weight problem is far less dangerous than to call a brother heretical or not even a Christian.
The issue is the God Channel and a particular type of Christianity which grates over here in Europe.
And I'm afraid one of the things that is a symbol for what is unattractive about this TV-Christianity is the "The world is going to wrack and ruin" theology and the irrelevance of social and environmental concerns, exemplified to us by what appears to personal indulgence.
And yes, there ARE some things wrong with me. But I'm not in the public eye, am I.
I have to explain or provide a context for what my cynical work colleagues see as evangelical Christianity.

I can understand the concern. There are times when I don't wish to be identified with Christianity because of how some Christians shame the name of Christ with their behavior and attitudes. And then they get on TV and really do their damage.
Perhaps you would do better to teach people the 8th commandment...not bearing false witness. Unless you know personally that these preachers are gluttons, you can't judge their actions as such.
I know many pastors who are large men who are full of the Holy Spirit and their preaching shows it.
Now...if you wish to attack the God Channel because of the message, then by all means do so. Don't attack it because there's fat guys preaching on it.

Large and fat aren't the same, of course.
My personal views on fatness are actually quite nuanced.
My best friend is overweight. She has a 'spare tyre'. She wants a man, but notices that all the men she likes want thin women.
Anyway, that's besides the point. She is overweight she tells me because:
1) She does comfort eat.
2) She's on steroids since a car accident.
She tells me that the first needs to be addressed and is a spiritual issue. But we've ALL got areas of blockage don't we? She is no less of a fellow-Christian. But if you have a constituency that you are trying to influence.....
But here's an issue.
When I was abroad, the country I lived in was generally malnourished. There was just enough food, but of poor quality and no extra. And the visiting speakers, if they had the 'physical presence' that I am talking about, went down very badly, particularly with the very-sensitive authorities.
The long-term missionaries lived 'local' and adopted the same lifestyles.
Those preachers on the God channel DO send an unfortunate message to those secularists who have watched it. And they DO consider it to be part of a message they profoundly reject. The 'I'm all right because God's going to rapture me. The suffering of the world is caused not by anything I do, but their sin'
I've never noticed or thought about the weight issue before. I wouldn't pay much mind to it. I don't consider myself "Fat", but I need to lose weight as I'm on the chubby side. It's not from overeating at all though, since last year I don't get enough food and usually eat one meal a day, 2 if I'm lucky. I also walk a few hours a day for relaxation so calories are burned. I think the issue with me is slow metabolism and maybe drinking too much sugar in the drinks I use. Either way hard to judge as you never know.
For God TV, never watched it. The first time i heard of it was with the revival in Lakeland where I live with Todd Bentley, and I felt uneasy with some of the things I heard about God TV and their promotion of the revival.
