I am 18 years old... and for me it feels difficult to descern black from white...
I have no denomination, I simply accept God, and Christ as my savior... But i dont go to any Church, OFTEN... I know i should probably find a Church, but im not sure i need one... I poke through my bible every now and then trying to find answers and i pray each night.... but i still have many nagging questions. I thought i might be able to find some answers here.
I'll start with my first one:
I think my quest for God began when I was in 4th grade. I thought about how sinners are supposed to go to Hell and believers to Heaven. One thing I considered, was the possibility that there was no Heaven or Hell... and that death had no hidden surprises afterword, simply the end. Then i wondered what if I seriously believe that and end up being wrong when death came? Id go to Hell wouldn't I? What if I believe and end up being right? Then I'd have a chance to continue living, in a perfect world no-less. So I logically decided Heaven was worth believing in God for.
Do you think that was selfish of me? As selfish as picking only the winning side? Was my earliest decision to become Christian a hypocritical one?
Maybe, but it was only a beginning. After all, you can get from a wrong place to a right place. It will help immensly if you find a good church. The search can take time, but in the end it's well spent.

It's not selfish to want to be saved, so that's not a bad start. The Christian mathematician Pascal once said something similar.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled by people here as to console them; to be understood by them, as to understand them; to be loved by them, as to love them: For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
As far as the church goes, I would suggest finding one that follows the pattern of the New Testament church. You will be surprised to see how many churches do not really follow the Bible at all. Most have names that were derived from the mind of men. The key is finding a church that teaches the word of God and nothing else. Sadly, the majority of "churches" in the world today do not do that.

The questions you have are normal questions. First and most important no man is or was perfect- read the Bible in your spare time.
The enemy has convinced many that the church is in you and you don't have to be in church. So the enemy takes what can be slightly true and change it. Go to Church so you can grow spiritually fed. The Holy Ghost moves and gives a word because someone or multiple people are spiritually strong in the church. Go to church and you will find one that is right for you. Where you just feel like fit and you will grow. Stay Blessed!
Having questions and sometimes being wrong about something will not condemn you to hell at all IMO. I am sure most of here have a wrong idea about something the bible means and don't know it. As long as you love God with all your heart, I believe that you are saved.
As for the church issue, I didn't go to church before but I feel like I need it now. Not really even "need", but a want to further my walk with God. It's a fun thing to explore. If you do not know where you belong, it's great fun to explore different churches.
I am not a denomination either, but I do visit denominational churches for worship, as I am not as crazy about non-denominational churches when it comes to worship.

"You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever." - Psalm 30:10-12
