though I am absent in the flesh,
yet I am with you in spirit...... (Colossians 2:5)
when you are gathered together,
along with my spirit............. (1 Corinthians 5:4)
I don't even know where my spirit is. Is it in my heart, in the brain, or spread all over my body? What does it do? How do I differentiate between my spirit and my mind? I only have a vague understanding. But Paul knew all about the spirit.
Sometimes I wish Paul had written a chapter or two about human spirit. Instead, he confessed he knew in part, as if looking through the mirror.
My understanding of human spirit and spiritual realm is little. But I know Jesus and I know his love for me. How is this possible? What perceives Jesus and his love is my spirit. But I don't even know where it is.
but the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13)
I am not going to spend hours to understand the spiritual realm. Rather, I will spend an hour to increase my love for the Lord.
I can't believe no one has responded to this......
I used to be a part of CF as you can see from my number of posts, and your name is familiar to me, but pardon me if I don't remember that much....
Our spirit enables us to hear from God (which Jesus promised we all could do, nothing spooky, LOL) and to be inspired, it gives us stamina and a good conscience to stay out of trouble, it enables us to see and hope spiritually and to have fellowship with others and with God, and it is our spirit that is interested in worship and prayer.
If your spirit is asleep (and yes you can go to sleep spiritually, though I don't recommend it having been there), you can't hear from God, your practice of Christianity is fleshy and feels fake, you can't forgive or have true fellowship, and despair creeps in.
It's vital to remain spiritually healthy through repentance, forgiveness, worship, and application of the Word of God.
blessings

Hi,
Your soul is you, your personality, will, emotions, and mind. It is the part of you that will live forever.
Your soul has a physical body, with five senses, in order to communicate with the physical world.
Your soul also has a spirit 'body', which can experience and communicate with the spiritual realm. You can hear, feel and see things in your spirit.
As your spirit isn't physical, it doesn't conform to a physical location per se, but it does reside within you; and there are some scriptures which suggest it is at the very centre of your being, your heart (not to confused with the physical organ) in the area of your abdomen/belly.
Hope this helps,
God Bless
Simon

One discernable physical location is your lower abdomen.
If you have a burden, or a spiritual sorrow, or need to intercede.... you will find the experience like labor pains.
That is one.

"...do not be concerned that some do not see your message. There are those who are hungrey for truth and who are seeking light. Nowhere in the Bible does it say your soul will live forever. This was an old Greek myth, tied to Hades, etc.

I believe your spirit is the same thing as what we commonly refer to nowadays as the "heart" (or the heart of man). God's wants everything to come from your heart; worship, etc. and not from the flesh (that is vain repetition, etc.) Hope this helps. God bless!

We are told many times in scripture that we have "eternal life", or will 'suffer in eternal fire'. What, or what part of us, is this refering to?
A man’s soul is the core of his being, his life; the Greek word for soul “psuche”[1] is often translated as ‘life’ in English.

Their are hundreds of references to 'heart' in scripture. If you read through them, you will find it's more of a generic term talking about the inner man: spirit, or soul, sometimes both.
The following scripture seems to confirm this:
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (NIV)
The scriptural use of 'heart' is a way to describe that part of man that is hidden, that God values most. In-other-words that part of man that is not physical.
peace, Simon

I've heard people being invited to a family get together or to meet with a
group of freinds. They reply sometimes that they can't make it but will be there in spirit. Meaning their thoughts will be thinking about wanting to be there. I think that is all Paul is saying with these two verses.

When we become a Christian, the Holy Spirit that is within us. That’s the definition of a Christian. The Holy Spirit is within us believers, Christ dwells in our hearts, and "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27) is the burning core of the Christian faith.
