Do you guys think it's better to pile up gold or pile up food, e.g. rice and beans?

I think it is wise to have a year's worth of dry and canned goods plus emergency supplies in the event of a sudden crisis (hyperinflation, war, riots, cutoff of food, fuel, power supplies, etc.).

If any of those happen, the food supply in your city or town will be set upon by the unprepared like locusts and will be gone in less than a week. I want no part of that.

I would definitely convert my car and generator to run on methane and use methane to heat my home.

As far as investments go, cash will probably be valueless in the near future, so any goods that are suitable for trade are good investments. Certificates of ownership (i.e. gold) are only valuable if the institution you purchased it from still exists. If you are thinking of investing disposable income in precious metals, it should be hard currency or jewelry--something tangible.

Before investing in precious metals, I would first consider investing in some friends who are not blindly optimistic about the future. There is greater safety in numbers.

No matter what we do, most of us here will likely die in the next 5 years, so you
might want to store some treasures in heaven (i.e. charitable works) and hope there is a Jesus coming in 5 years. The other alternative is rather bleak.

I am a Christian and I am quite critical of all the noise of illumnati talk and overemphasis of prophecy Armaggedon because finances are messed up. Let's make one thing clear is that the next few years do not seem to be the factor that ushers in Jesus coming back. The gospel must be preached in all the world to every different group of people, then the end will come. The gospel has spread far and wide over the centuries, but there are still tribes that have not heard the gospel much less never heard of the name of Jesus the Savior.

So for now, look to heaven for Jesus' return and be mindful of earthly things to make sure physical needs are met. Advice I give to people that is practical to survive the Second Great Depression is the following paragraphs. Now there is a title for the history books.
  1. Buy land if you can that is farmland or at least arable, if not dig up land you might own and convert it with local compost into arable garden space. Believe me it does take a little time, but with one weekend and three people I have experience of moving one ton of dirt into a space lined using only hand tools and a wheelbarrow with landscape sandstone blocks to make a raised bed. I am going to the same as the weather turns warmer with more land.

  2. Buy vegetable and fruit seeds. The best vegetables in my experience for getting the most produce from each plant in as little land space as possible with great nutrition and saving any seeds left over have been the following: pole beans, tomatoes, carrots, vine peas, cucumbers, and potatoes. I will try other things this year to add to this year and using cold frames to extend the raising and harvesting of the season. Buy canning (mason jars) jars with lids and learn to do canning of your garden produce on Youtube.

  3. I am thinking of also raising a few hens as well for a source of daily protein i.e. eggs. It's practically possible and legal in almost every place I have ever seen, including living in city limits. I once had to deal with hearing a neighbor's rooster crow once in a while across the street from my grandmother's home because it belonged to an Asian family. Mind you this is in city limits surrounded by homes closely spaced together.

  4. Buy some jewlery of old U.S. coins from before 1964 for dimes and quarters. That is when they used to be made of 90% silver and 10% copper. I would also save up American pennies from the year 1982 and before considering they were made of 100% copper it could be traded in for scrap metal if copper becomes that valuable. You could save pennies with the wheat emblem on their reverse side and trade those in for needed cash to be spent right away.

  5. Buy a hunting rifle and check you local and State laws for hunting licenses as necessary. Believe me, if push comes to shove I will feed my family with one or two deer to fatten them up.

  6. Store some canned foods, the easiest method of any person that can, is to stock a secret stash of canned and a few dehydrated foods. Dyhrated foods should be used as a last moment insurance. The food last 12 to 15 years on the shelf. Canned tomatoes and beans are cheapest. I would also look at buying 25 pound bags of rice, try to buy American brands to avoid problems of lax food production laws like from Thailand or China. Also, storing beans, sometimes coming in pack from 5 to 15 lbs. for bulk purchasing. They last up to 2 years usually if left in a dry, cool place.

  7. List your abilities, like cutting hair, splitting wood, cleaning an elderly person's house, and use that as a barter service if money is scarce.
  8. Go to a thrift store to buy jeans that fit you. There are good as barter items if need be. Buy wool mittens and hats during the summer to get them. Get warm winter coats at thrifts stores for cheap clothing and warm items. A history lesson that I learned of was that a man that used be live in Armenia said that in the 1990's there was war and the war was so devastating that heating the homes was expensive. He went to bed wearing his winter coat to stay warn. Consider this a possibility for America.

  9. Buy books about basic tailoring skiils and repairs on clothes, gardening, and basic carpentry skills.

  10. Make laundry detergent from borox, washing soda, and soap flakes. You can use baking soda as a softner. There is a video on Youtube for that on the Wikihow videos. Just type in wikihow and laundry detergent to get the video

Also, if you REALLY need to buy something like soda, tea, and small food items to help you get through, go to the dollar store [IE: dollar Tree... it literally is one of the main places me and the roommates go nowadays.]

Also, try buying in bulk if you can [namely Sam's, Bj's wholesale, any wholesaler]. If used properly and not wastefully, you can save X loads of money [sadly for some housholds where gluttony occurs, this may do more harm than good].

But above all else, Live your life through Christ. no one else can sing your song, cook your meal, or think your thoughts for you.
